Blue Angel
Description
Originally opened as a social club in 1939, this city centre venue is renowned for his musical history. The Beatles and Rolling Stones both played here in the 60s and memorabilia line the walls. The former had their first audition here when Alan Williams managed them in the Quarrymen. Deceptively small from the outside, it actually boasts five bars and two packed dance floors. The decor is unfussy and the ground floor bar gives the impression of standing in a large house party. During the week the crowd consist mainly of students, while weekends attract a more mature clientèle. Drinks are great value, with a range of special promotions each week.
