My Kid's Favorite Park!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/04/08
Idlewild is my children's favorite park for many reasons. The largest of the play areas has something for every kid, from my littlest tyke to my eldest daughter. There is one area designed for older children ( 6-12 ) and only yards away is another area for little ones ( 2-5 ). They are in the same enclosed area so you can keep an eye on all of them at the same time. There is a shady area with picnic tables which is close enough to the train tracks across the Truckee river that the kids can see the trains rolling by. The trees surrounding the park keep the winds at bay, which is a rare find in this area. There is a pond with all kinds of waterfowl. There is a rose garden to stroll through, baseball fields to play catch in, the Truckee River to skip rocks across, a walking trail to work off the buffets, a public pool and skateboard park! It is close enough to downtown that you can walk to it if you'd like, or if you prefer to drive, there is always ample parking. Free parking! I'm sure I'm forgetting more features, but I'll leave it up to you to discover them for yourself! Have fun, and I'll see you at the park!

It's a dump !!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/14/07
This park, being one of the oldest in Reno, really shows it's age. The grass areas are very worn out, weeds grow aplenty amongst what flower beds are planted. The City of Reno has neglected this landmark for many years as they are too involved in updating and maintaining the new parks within new housing developments. There is a kid's "mini" carnival area maintainted by the Kiwana Club that needs repair, maintenance and some TLC beyond belief. If visiting the area, skip this park as it is not worth your time. Signed, A long term native Nevadan specific to this neighborhood & park
