I enjoyed its fine temporary exhibits(Egyptian Art from the Brooklyn Museum;Chris Jordan's creations)and the overall physical layout of this art museum.Although I saw some fine paintings by;Frieseke,Maynard Dixon, and Bridget Riley, there was an insufficient number of works of art on display from its permanent collection.Even though,I have been to many better art museums,I still spent an enjoyable four hours there.
This is an amazing museum for its size and this town. Don't listen to the comment below. He doesn't know what he's talking about. There are 3 floors of art work, both permanent exhibits and traveling. They focus on local artists and western themes as well as managing to get big names to travel through. I visit it regularly and enjoy the special events that they host like First Thursday and Jazz Brunch Sundays. I would go any time.
This was a total waste of my time as well as money. I took my son there for a fieldtrip. There were only about 2 rooms that even have any art. We were done in 15 min with the whole thing because there is literally nothing to see. Out of a score of 1-10... I would give it a zero. Do not waste your money at this museum. Go see the museum in Carson city or Harrah's automobile museum.
The picture on this page is inacurate. A few years ago, the museum went through a HUGE rebuild. This is DEFINATLY a place to check out! The building itself is a architectural piece of art. There is a great permanent exhibit as well as wonderful traveling shows (right now Andy Warhall is here). There is a nice cafe and gift shop as well.
