Description

This beautifully landscaped area is one of Reno's premier parks. The Great Reno Balloon Race and "Reno Celebrates America", a fireworks show on the fourth of July, are a couple of the major events taking place here. On the grounds of this huge park you will find the Wilbur D. May Museum and Arboretum and the Great Basin Adventure Amusement Park . You will find miles of walking or jogging trails complete with exercise stations, a large playground for the kiddies, picnic and barbecue facilities, with acres and acres of grass. For large groups, you can call ahead and reserve one of the many gazebo picnic areas available throughout the park. No admission is charged for park entrance.

El Rancho San Rafael
By John, 1/6/08
That was the name of the ranch when I was a 10 year old child in 1958. The Sherfolio (spelling?) family ran or leased the ranch and ran cattle. It was the most beautiful place on earth. Everything you would expect a working ranch to be. I have visited the park a few times in recent years and I never have found mention of this family. As a child this was a safe haven for me and I can still hear, feel and smell the life that used to be there. Mrs. Sherfolio was a wonderful cook. She raised chickens, broke a garden and even separated the heavy cream from the milk. Mr. Sherfolio was a big gruff man whom I was a bit afraid of but loved him just the same. He was all about no nonsense. Work was work and play was work. They had a daughter named Linda. She was the one who befriended me and welcomed me to her home. These are the recollections of a child, but I cherish them dearly. The Park is the greatest gift anyone could have concidering that it will keep the natural wetlans alive as well as the ranch its self.

Got Kids? Need to run off steam?
By Veronica K, 8/26/07
This is the place you go! Its beautiful! The grass is green and clean all you have to worry about is the bird dung. Theres ducks too so bring your old loaf of bread. Have lunch let the kids run and when its time to go they sleep all the way home.

It is well maintained
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/11/06
My family always take our dogs to the dog park and go on hikes. I love the fact that it is always clean. My family also enjoys the arboritum. It has such a variety of beautiful plants.

Beautiful Park...Will Return ;-)
By Ailina, 7/9/05
I liked the fact that this park has it all; museum, arboretum, walking trails, everything in one place. The only thing that my sweetie and I could not understand is why they would not allow people to park inside. It was the 4th of July; it was advertised; but yet we could not park inside...instead we walked in from a nearby neighborhood. All in all, it is very big...much bigger than we had thought...and we will have to come back to continue our exploration. Thanks Rancho San Rafael!

Best park around
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/17/05
We like the dinosaur park and water slide. I also like how the playground is soft for my younger children.

best park in reno
By Nico, 8/1/04
There's a big nice playground for the kids, a big dog park for the dogs (of course!), usually a nice breeze for the kites...
Lovely!
