Old Washoe Club
Belly up to the bar and step back into the past. This bar has been around for more than a century and has a colorful history to boot. It was built in late 1800s as a swank private club for the city's silver king millionaires and eventually wound up being the fun spot it is today. The decor is strictly down-home neighborhood bar. While you're here, take a peek at the spiral staircase. It's an amazing bit of carpentry. You'll find lots of friendly locals who love to tell tourists some of Virginia City's rough and tumble tall tales. Local Country/Western bands fill the small saloon with lively music on the weekends. Grab your partner; dancing is permitted.
Every year for the past 7 + years we have vacationed in Lake Tahoe. Hands down, our favorite part of our vacation is the day we always set aside to go to Virgina City - with The Old Washoe Club being our favorite place in town. The building itself is fasinating & the people are so welcoming!! Of course the place us well known for it's ghosts & it has been the focus of a number of ghost hunters, including myself!! Last year we were fortunate enough to get to sit in on an investigation in progress. In 6 weeks we are on our way back there again & it is hard to contain my excitement. Besides, they have the best Bloody Marys in town!!!!!!!
I love the expectation that a ghost will brush up against me at the Old Washoe Club and maybe we'll do a dance on Saturday nights to the very fine live boogie/blues music that the club has to offer. Of all the places to visit in Virgina City The Old Washoe club is the friendliest!!!! And the Best!!
My husband and I loved the small town charm and history of Virginia City. After dinner we walked around in town & stopped in at the old Washoe Club. John, the owner?, was a fantastic "host" and all the local guys in the bar made us two tourists from a big city feel so comfortable. We enjoyed their stories of the history of the saloon. It was a fun place and we highly recommend this great place to all visitors to this great little town.
We are history buffs (Civil War reenactors) so we felt totally at home and could feel the history in this very special place. It's so neat to be in a place where Civil War generals, Albert Einstein, and so many others once stood.
One of the town dogs came in and made friends with us also. Perfect for vacationers starting to miss home and our own dogs. This place is a must see and was the highlight of our trip to Reno/Tahoe/VA City. It's now on the list of places we must return to someday soon.
