Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Since the grand opening of the Las Vegas 500 Indy Racing League in 1996, this speedway has gained instant popularity. This venue has both a one and 1/2-mile speedway and short-track offerings of a 3/8-mile paved oval track, a dirt track and drag strip. This facility is considered to be one of the best in the industry with NASCAR events throughout the year, such as Sam's Town 300 at the tail end of NASCAR week. Several driving schools are affiliated with the track, including Richard Petty Driving Experience , Derek Daly Academy and CART Driving 101 .
Great place for racing.... Terrible place to stay hydrated. There is not a single water fountain in the place, people were dropping like flies from heat related causes when I was here in Oct 2011. I asked several employees why there were no fountains and everyone of them said "because, we charge $4 a bottle for water!!!" WTH???
You shouldnt complain about traffic at this event. I have sat in traffic for 5 hours at a NASCAR event and its not dure to the traffic officials! Have you ever seen how many people are at a NASCAR race?? Its not like we are levaing a baseball or football game here there are over 100,000 people there sometimes. Always stay till Monday cuz gurenteed you would have missed your flight anyways because the check in line at the airport is almost 3 hours after an event like this. Get it together do your research....roookies
It took two hours to just get out of the parking lot after the Sprint Cup race on 2/28/10. Ended up missing our flight, booking a hotel and spending upward of $300 on changed flights the next day. Be aware that this facility has no clue how to run parking for a big event. Police presence directing traffic was essential non-existent.
