Spectacular red sandstone makes this a scenic desert wonder. This State Park has been a Nevada landmark since the 1930s and is home to many desert animals. On the cave walls you will see Indian petroglyphs, still remarkably preserved after hundreds of years of erosion from dust and wind. The drive is just over 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas and at sunset produces a memorable photographic opportunity. Check with the visitor center for details of the park, as well as souvenirs.

WOW Best Pick for Hiking around Vegas
By Gail, 05/07/09
This place is spectacular -- both the vistas seen while driving as well as the hiking -- climbing over rocks; amazing vistas. So much is said about Red Rock Canyon but If I had to choose between the two (seeing both is best) I'd plan more time here. Its worth the extra miles.

Simply spectacular!
By NJ Jo, 12/28/07
This state park is as good as any national park and only costs $6 per car. The rock formations are awesome, especially when the sun is out. So much red colored rock. You need to see it to believe it. Probably the most overlooked and underused site when visiting Las Vegas!

Great place for the whole family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/04/07
This was a great experience. Although not a desert fan normally, this place blew us away. There were so many beautiful sandstone formations...great canyons and hikes. Thoroughly enjoyed the hike to Mouse's Tank. The hike through the White domes area was a great adventure. We were there in the late afternoon, and the long shadows of the sun being cast on the rock formations was awesome. Most definitely encourage a visit to this place. Great for kids and adults alike. We will definitely return in the future.

Fabulous Park!
By Bruce & Christy, 03/03/07
The scorching temperatures in the summer guarantee you'll want to visit between October and May! The views are incredible! Layers upon layer of red standstone, of which many cliff walls are filled with petroglyphs. We usually ride up through Boulder City, along the north shore of Lake Mead and into the upper Overton arm to access the park.

Oh my God!!
By greg, 08/20/05
This place is absolutely amazing!! We spent an entire day. The petroglyphs from thousands of years ago are mind blowing. We loved everything about the valley. It was such a nice day we drove to Lake Mead and went swimming. That was very refreshing. We'll have to go back so we can see more of it.

We went to the park early and wandered around all morning enjoying the views...they were incrdeible. The information center was very informative.
