Description

Before Bugsy Siegel made it to town, the Mormon Church created this tiny settlement in 1855. It boasts the oldest European-American building in Nevada. The site was purchased by the State of Nevada in 1990 and restored as a state park. Tours are now available that outline the harsh life that the first settlers endured. The place was once a rest stop for those heading to California to seek their fortune during the gold rush. This section is also a part of the Cultural Corridor that lies close to the university area. No credit cards are accepted.

Great to see another way of life

We stumbled upon this place quite by accident on one of our trips to Vegas. We like historic things and spotted this as we were driving past and decided to see what it was all about. The old buildings are intact and you can almost imagine the site filled with people at that time in history. We enjoyed it, took many pictures and recommend this to history buffs that visit Las Vegas. Friends who live in Las Vegas didin't even know it was there so maybe they should advertise the site more. It was enjoyable to be able to wander thru without a guide and read and see the sites of Old Las Vegas.
