For the last six years my sister who's from Denver and my mom from Los Angeles meet there annually for a bowling tournament. I went last year and enjoyed it greatly. There's bowling, theatres, great food places, sports book and plenty gaming. (I won $1,800 on the penny slots). We were there Sunday-Thursday and I never left the place. Everything I needed and wanted was there.
I will definately join the family tradition of annual summer trips to SamsTown. Oh yeah, they are very good about comping the rooms and food.
Okay, so if you're like me and you enjoy Vegas (maybe a bit too much at times) and the gambling opportunities it brings, you'll LOVE SAM'S TOWN. The Hotel/Casino is just as simple as it's name, but in the best ways possible.
First of all, your best bet is to rent a car, though cabbing it there is possible...just a little costly. AND WHO WANTS TO SPEND SLOT/VIDEO POKER MONEY ON A CAB ANYWAYS?!! Okay, you've rented the car and saw some sights on the ride there. Parking-very accomodating. Easy park-easy entrance. Your first step into Sam's Town will give you a feeling you don't get anywhere else in Vegas...NORMAL.
The sound of water coming from the water falls and the ACTUAL light you see through the glass ceiling only perpetuate that feeling. The middle of the casino seems to pay tribute to the outdoors and old town life in general. This is enhanced further with the water/sound/light show that plays at designated times throughout the day (see website for details).
Beyond the fun of its small town theme you have the standard Vegas games to entertain you. Sam's Town is known as the "Friendliest Casino in Vegas," and held up to that. The people were nice (HEY, I walked out of there with a brand new fruit bowl) and the slots and video poker were EVEN NICER to me. I played four different video poker machines and pulled double my money out on each one. You don't get that on the Strip!
Oh, and, one last thing...
TRY THE BUFFET...IT'S FANTASTIC!!
I first visited Sams Town in March 2005. Got friendly with a pit boss and was offered free rooms if returning. Returned in September 2005 and rooms were comped, brand new, clean, perfect room, overlooking the park.
Great food, great gaming. Very clean. Very fun.
TRY IT! You will be impressed!
