Trattoria del Lupo
Chef and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck has done it again. A bar in the center of the restaurant is a great place to meet prior to dining. The Italian bistro features classics with traditional and contemporary influences amid a Tuscan cafe-like setting. The menu changes frequently, but main favorites are available when requested. Options include unique variations of fresh seafood, pasta, veal, gourmet pizza, lamb and chicken. The pastries here are phenomenal, so save room. Private dining is also available.
We live in Henderson and like to treat ourselves to a fine strip restaurant once in a while. We had dinner there last week. 2 foot bread sticks wrapped in paper were placed right on the table with nothing to dip in until we asked, and took up way too much room on such a small table. The tomato, basil, mozzerella appetizer was good. Squash/pumpkin soup was tasty. I ordered linguine & clams....very bland and the pasta way too al dente...did not enjoy it at all. My husband had Rissotto with clams, shrimp, crab in a lobster broth...I could smell the fishy smell across the table, he said it tasted fishy, I didn't ask for a bite. Our waiter told us the fish "was in the water yesterday", I find that doubtful. Ordered a glass of the Merlot, it was bitter...so we popped for an expensive bottle of wine. Overall, service was good, food was not. We won't be back.
Recently, while on a trip to Las Vegas, we stopped to dine at Wolfgang Pucks "Lupo." After a full day of sightseeing and gambling, we worked up quite an appetite and were very excited for a great meal. WOW, were we disappointed! I was having a yen for seafood, so I was steered toward the swordfish steak by the attending, well-informed waiter. Not only was the fish dry, but when I informed our server, his response was, " I'll let the Chef know" After 20 minutes, another gentleman stopped by the table and asked if we were interested in dessert. No Thank You! The quality of my piece of fish was so poor, that I felt it had to be frozen, then slapped on a grill.
P.S My wifes pasta was dull and overcooked.
This was not at all what I expected from such a highly publicized restaurant. Do yourselves a favor, spend your hard earned money at Il Mulino at Caesers where the food, service and ambiance is not only suburb, but I had one of the most delicious meals of my New York City life.
Had dinner there Saturday night. Reservation for 9 o'clock for a table of six. Still had to wait which is to be expected. Sat down and drinks was ordered. Bread was delivered to our table without anything to dip with which was fine because the guy apologized after we ask someone else for it. The food was the most important thing we were looking forward to. We wanted to see what the rave is all about over Wolfgang Puck. We had the Fresh Mozzarella and Tomatoes and Fried Calamari as appetizers. Both were really good but the calamari was just a tad bit oily for our taste. Then we got some dishes to share; ordered 2 of the ossobuco brasare braised lamb shanks with citrus romaine and charred tomato, lasagna with beef, and pappardelle al ragu (flat noodles with veal bolognese, Italian parsley and nutmeg). The ossobuco was very tender and full of flavor, however, since we ordered 2 of them, we noticed that one dish was more salty than the other which was a bit of disappointment. The flat noodles was my favorite dish. Fresh handmade pasta over meat sauce with just the right amount of seasonings. Not too heavy and I was wishing we had 2 of the pasta dish instead of the ossobuco. The one dish I would not recommend is the lasagna. Don't know why but it was a little too dry for my taste and was way too heavy for me. For desserts, we had the creme brulee and ice cream cones. The cones was okay, they just fancied it up and charge more. The creme brulee was bad though. Maybe it was a different style but I've never had creme brulee that tasted like cake before. I thought I was eating a cheesecake till I noticed the torched sugar on top. Overall, it was pretty good but for me, it was like a hit or miss dinner. Next time, I would rather go across the way and try Rumjungle.
Really surprised at how bad this was. We stayed at Mandalay Bay and tried it in hopes of having a pleasant, uneventful trattoria-type meal. Not!
We would have been better served by going to a greasy spoon diner and ordering sandwiches.
How Wolfgang tolerates his name on the door - or is it all about selling and slapping his good name on anything - is beyond me. I can not believe Wolfgang eats here. If he did, boy I want to see the expression on his face!
Service was very slow and unattentive. We had to remind our waiter to bring us things. The food wasn't bad, but when I eat at a restaurant of this caliber, I expect to walk away saying "Wow." I got the fettucine, and it was a little too light and bland. My friend had them put cream sauce on hers and it was too heavy. Perhaps a middle ground? My friend's mother said the salmon was great, so perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. The Mandalay Bay is beautiful, so the atmosphere was nice. I would rather have eaten at the buffet.
If ever you are in the mood for something bland, uninspired or at least tasty, then you need to go to Lupos.
Now if you are in a hurry or even slightly hungry, then maybe you might want to go somewhere else, because at Lupos you get to wait and wait for the bland and tasteless.
They do not offer you salt at your table, so be prepared to ask for it, cause youre gonna need it.
Maybe there are just too many Wolfgangs around. Maybe it might be time for Wolfgang to actually eat at one of his restaurants, or maybe it is just time for me to make it a point to never ever eat anything made by a Puck.
Lupo is way overrated. I'm sorry to say Wolfgang but I would not want my name associated with this place. The quality of the Pasta and meals were at the cafeteria level, not to mention ridiculously over priced. The atmosphere was noisy and the service was sub standard.
I hate to admit it, but the Belagio buffet was 10X better, in terms of quality of food, service and atmosphere.
I will never visit this restaurant again.
