Jackson Street Booksellers
This Old Market bookstore is not your typical, "run-of-the-mill" used book shop. The owners do not take donations and they pay cash for book trade-ins. What this gives the store is thousands of choice titles that often cannot be found in a library or a new release bookstore. The inventory includes out-of-print editions, first editions, signed copies of some of the finest novels, non-fiction and literary works available today. Whether you are seeking good reading material, or a collector's item, this store is worth a closer look.
Jackson Street Booksellers has been a haunt of mine for many years. It is what I call a true "big city" bookstore. In other words, it is the kind of bookstore that you might ordinarily find in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, et al. It is the best used bookstore in the Midwest. Better than any in Kansas City, Minneapolis, Denver, Des Moines. Carl and Amanda are the best! If you're interested in anything from reading copies to nice first editions, go to Jackson Street Books (in Omaha!).
None of the other used book stores in Omaha compare in quality of material and selection. Though the owners may seem distant at times, they are brilliant in their knowledge of literature and deserve applause for creating such a reputable bookstore. There's nothing like getting the approval from Amanda on your choices!! Get to this bookstore, you won't regret it.
re: The Jackson Street Booksellers - Amanda is way too cool to be bothered by those that are too feeble minded to appreciate her extreme cool style - I am a huge fan of Amanda's and whoever dissed her needs to apologize. Heaven's To Betsy !! - D.Levin
The title says it all: if you're looking for an incredible selection of both hardcover and paperback classics and other literary fondants, you won't find a better bookstore to spend a few hours at in Omaha. However, the staff is less than helpful and the co-owner (Amanda) is the epitome of mean/unbalanced.
This is a great place to lose a few hours and a few bucks. They have a wide range, from old to new, on every topic you could realistically be looking for. Browse for yourself, or ask the owners, who somehow manage to keep track of the ever changing inventory without a complicated computer system.
We hit this place every year, and every year there are more books in there and more shelves being built. They have books on every topic you can imagine and a bunch of topics you'd never expect to see. It is a booklovers paradise. All the books are in great condition, you never pick up anything where the binding cracks or the pages fall out. I loves them. If we actually lived in Omaha, we would be out of money because of these guys!
