Charlie's on the Lake
A wide selection of seafood sets this restaurant apart from similar upscale dining rooms. Ranging from scallops served with pasta to seafood-stuffed prime rib, you may find it difficult deciding what to order. Non-seafood lovers have plenty of other options, including tender steaks and chicken. Large picture windows provide a view of a small lake. A dinner for two averages USD50. The atmosphere is upscale, so attire should be on the dressy side of casual/informal. Reservations are recommended, especially for large groups or weekends. Additional locations can be found at 3604 Twin Creek Drive in Bellevue (+1 402 292 1777) and at 3321 South 72nd St (+1 402 991 9611).
We had a a group of 12 in for a Christmas party. We were not seated in the semi-secluded area of the restaurant that we were promised. The service was very slow and some food items were not brought out at the same time as the meal, causing a couple of us to just tell them to forget those extra food items. The food itself was below average - not what I was used to from past dining here. From the time we were seated to the time we finally got our bill and left was over 2 1/2 hours. I will likely not dine here again with so many other better options for restaurants in Omaha.
Charlie's is a seafood restaurant. Therefore I have only ordered the seafood. I have eaten at Charlie's many times over the last few years. Each and EVERY time the food has been good and the service has been great. The Apetizers are great - The Salmon many ways is GREAT. Other seafoods meet or exceed my expectations. People who have been with me have said the chicken and beef dinners are also good. I can't say as I tend to order seafood at a seafood restaurant. Pricing is a little above some other restaurants but within an acceptable range. Good Food - Good Service and really GREAT martinis (we like the chocolate ones). This is the place I first take friends from out of town for dinner. I highly recommend Charlie's for the food and service.
After enjoying and recomending Charlie's to multiple Business Associates, Visiting Military Dignitaries, Academics, and Friends since 1998, I find it hard to believe the way I was treated at their 86th & Maple Location in Omaha, NE. I arrived hoping to enjoy an excellent lunch at 12:42 (over the Lunch Period) and was promptly seated, after waiting 15 minutes, watching a small 10 table Lunch Crowd eat and be served all around me, I was never waited on or even acknowledged.
I walked out at 1:05PM--never to return, recommend, or even offer a "good word" on Charlie's again. This just cost you probably $50K in meals alone a year.
Thank You, and Goodbye
Pretty disappointing--for the price the food was below par and the portions were small, served individually in "cafeteria" style serving bowls as if everything had been ordered a la carte. The french bread baguette was served cold in a paper bag. In spite of this our waiter was excellent--very helpful with suggestions. He really should be working somewhere else. Since moving from St. Louis we have heard such good things about this establishment. We were very disappointed!! Was it just a off night?
went in the friday before they packed the restaurant up and left the hotel. They at least could have told us. They did not have food we ordered, drinks we ordered, NOTHING--- Guess we should have known-- come to find out, the guy packs up the restaurant in the middle of the night, and jumps ship!! Bad business man-- stay away from his places
We dined at the 144th St location about 5:00pm Saturday, October 29, 2005. My wife ordered the shrimp florentine. The shrimp were overcooked into "little hard round chewy balls", and the sauce was "tasteless".
My catfish was either old, or it had thawed and been refrozen, because it was extremely fishy tasting. The bread, which on earlier visits had been warm and crispy, was not baked enough and it was like eating dough. We were seated in the back room, which looks out on the lake. It was a beautiful fall evening but, as usual, all the blinds were closed, so we couldn't see out. The only good things on this visit were the wine and the butter. We won't go back.
Our experience with Charlie's has been good until tonite (10/14/05). We recently had been going to Charlie's on 72nd Street in Omaha, Nebraska and frequently visited it at least every two weeks or even more. We went tonite (10/14/05) and found that this Charlie's had closed much to our disappointment. We decided (there were 9 of us) to go the Charlie's on the Lake at 144th street in Omaha, Nebraska. We knew there would be a wait and our wait was for 1 hour which we understood. Our problem was with the service. It took the waiter at least 15 minutes to come to our table to wait on us, and then he came and got drink orders, not for all the table, just for a couple of the people with us, and not for any of the rest of the people, and that took at least 15 minutes to get those drink orders back to us. One of the persons with us asked if he would take our order and he left and said he would be right back and that took at least another 15 minutes. By this time, we all were getting very...very frustrated... by the waiting. During all the waiting, the manager did come to our table and apologized for the delay and offered to get us some drinks which he did. Even after this, we still had to wait another 10-15 minutes before the waiter came to take our food order. We did get a food order of boneless chicken wings which we finally figured out wasn't ours along with bread which we all took a piece of because we were so hungry. The tables behind us that were setting to the side came in behind us and were waited on immediately and got their food before we got ours or were even offered service. We eventually got our orders approximately 20-25 minutes later. We all got the right orders, although one was not what was exactly ordered (cooked the right way). We then finsihed the meals and then had to wait for the tickets to pay for our meals. We had to eventually stand up to get our waiter to come back to our table so he could give us the tickets so we could pay. We know you are busy during this weekend, but we feel our service was very inadequate. It was like he was ignoring us and waiting on everyone else even though there was 9 of us. We were all very.... very disappointed in the service we received there and have no plans to go back to Charlie's in the future. We never had this bad of service at the Charlie's on 72nd Street.
The experience was not fun and we will not recommend it to anyone else to go there. We had heard good things about Charlie's, but now that we have experience the one on 144th in Omaha, Nebraska, we do not plan on going back at all.
When I relocated to Omaha this was a great place to eat, I don't know what happened. I have given Charlie's its last chance. The food wasn't awful, but for their reputation and prices I expect better. I have had much better meals at "lesser" establishments and chains. The most disappointing thing is they have been consistently bad, over the course of at least the past year. Too bad, because their location on 144th has a great atmosphere and WAS a favorite place to take clients.
