You can feel the spirit of the Mississippian Indians live on at this popular attraction. Interesting artifacts are displayed in the world class museum/interpretive center.The impressive state historic site spans over 2200 ACRES, including 70 mounds and gives visitors a fascinating feel for this ancient civilization that dates back to 800-1400 AD.
It seemed to me that not nearly enough artifacts were on display .in the years that I have been going there .I once talked to a greeter there that grew up in the area and worked at the dog track as kid he said that he and his freinds used to throw artifacts at each other as they walked across the corn feilds to go to work at the dog track as kids imagine that .I wonder why so much of this history is in cabinets at universties and such where avide amatuers like muyself can't see it?I love a the pull of kahokia my spirit calss me there from time to time.thnanks for 3what you have done to save this place .
