Bissell Mansion Restaurant and Dinner Theater

Description

The Bissell Mansion has been dubbed St. Louis' Oldest "Hysterical" Landmark. Built in the 1820s as the home of Captain Lewis Bissell, it features period decor along with many of the original furnishings. Comedy/mystery dinner theater shows are produced throughout the year. A five-course dinner is served between acts. Guests receive an identity upon arrival, with the murderer and suspects being randomly chosen. The menu consists of a choice of appetizer, soup, garden dinner salad, entree, and three glasses of wine and beverage. It is topped off with a chocolate mousse. Meals are included in the Mystery Theatre.

Go with an open mind
By elle, 6/15/09
The area is not a good one, but we had no problems and the parking lot was safe. I agree you should have the staff give you directions. The home is beautiful, and the history wonderful, but it could use some new flooring, etc; I'm giving you the negatives first just so you know ahead of time what to expect. That being said, don't pre-judge, as I did. I highly recommend giving this a try. Everyone in our group had a part and I do believe the whole audience was involved. Sure the play was corny, but that's what made it so much fun. The two actors carried it off beautifully. Go with an open mind, look forward to a decent meal and a really good time. If you don't enjoy yourself, you'll have only yourself to blame.

There will be no return visit.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/07
Although somewhat comical, it was very corny. The main actor - who was also the murder victim also returned after the murder to play another actor. Neither was performed very well. Everyone in our group made comments that we had wasted money on this embarassing charade and we could have had a wonderful dinner elsewhere in St Louis. We loved our visit to St Louis with the exception of the visit to The Bissell Murder/Mystery Mansion. It was considered the worst night of our trip. Next time we are planning an outing we will rely on more than a good website or good reviews.

Wonderful Experience!
By Skyla, 1/18/06
My husband surprised with me this night for my birthday. We traveled 3 hours and I had a great time. I love acting and letting the audience participate was terrific. I would like to take a group of my students if I could afford it.

We had a blast!
By diana, 8/9/05
My girlfriend and I went to the Bissell Mansion in August 2005 for a murder mystery dinner. The food was very good, the atmosphere was great, and the "mystery" was hilarious and alot of fun. The staff was extremely helpful, gracious and well mannered. Two drawbacks: The mansion interior while quite lovely needs further restoration, and get directions from the mansion staff not mapquest. Mapquest had us completely lost. So put the mansion's phone number in your cell phone to call for directions and have a great night for an inexpensive price. The way the mystery is set up you get to have dinner with your friend, spouse, etc, but meet people from other areas of the country, state, walks of life. I truly enjoyed the experience and look forward to going again as soon as I can!
