Ozzie's Restaurant and Sports Bar
Baseball fans all over the world know who Ozzie Smith is: he played shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1982-1996. This restaurant and bar was once owned by the sports star and still bears his name.
We came with a party of 16 people to eat here before the Comedy Club. Good thing we had good company with each other to compensate for the food and service we were given. We made a reservation and arrived to have a table set with only 14 chairs and silverware for 12. Two waitresses worked our table and they didn't work in synce with each other. We received our food and bills at different times as if we were separate groups. Paying the bill took a total of 25 minutes after recieving them. The food was substandard in taste. Our array of appetizers we ordered all tasted the same, as if they were all fried in the same deep-fryer. It was apparent to the manager that our waitresses were struggling to serve us towards the end, but he offered no apologies of any sort to our group. It was obvious all staff lacked proper training. Ordering drinks or even a glass of water proved difficult at best. Plenty of other restaurants to try in Westport than Ozzie's for eating.
We were in St. Louuis for softball tournament. They sent girls to the games to pass out coupons, so we went. Atmosphere(sports) was great. Service was the worst. After 2 days of getting slow service, then receiving everything(soup, salad, appetizers, meal) piled on the table at the same time, we actually went back a third day(it was adjacent to our hotel). We specifically requested that we receive our meals with some order. It was actually worse. When we complained to the manager, all did was not charge me(1 of 25 people)for my meal. Which, considering I never received it, was not much consideration. I've met Ozzie Smith, and I believe he'd be very disappointed to know what is going on.
We went to Ozzie's on a Sunday right before a Cardinals game. My husband enjoyed the atmosphere because there are TV's everywhere and he could watch baseball (all teams playing - not just the Cardinals) throughout the meal. I would definitely recommend Ozzie's if you are looking for a casual & fun sports atmosphere. I also recommend the 'Ozzie's platter' for an appetizer. It was delicious & gives you a sampling of 4 appetizers - Toasted Ravioli, Chicken Fingers, Potato Skins & Cheese Sticks. They were all very good. For dinner my husband had ribs & I had the Pasta con Broccoli. Mine was delicious (I have to say, I wasn't expecting it to be so good). My husband enjoyed his ribs, but I don't think he'd say they were the best he's ever had. Good portions of food & the prices were reasonable. Our server was very attentive - a little too attentive for my liking. He must of come by at LEAST 10 times throughout the meal to see if we were OK. If we had a plate that was empty, he was there w/in 2 seconds to get it. Nice, but a bit too much.
I would recommend Ozzies for a fun & casual place to eat.
I felt that the place has an extremly casual environment. The prices were somewhat resonable and the food was okay. My little boys enjoyed the fact that Ozzie's is decorated with sports memorabilia. I would not recommend this particular place for a romantic dinner or for a buissness meeting of any sort.
This is one of my favorite places to eat, drink and be merry - especially when there is a Cardinal game to watch on the big screen. I've been in Arizona for 10 years and I miss being in St. Louis and hanging out at Ozzie's Sports Bar.
