Unimpressed. That is the impression I have been left with from Matsuri. I made attempts to order particular dishes from this place, but the person on the phone was completely unyielding to my requests. My wife was very specific about what she wanted, California Rolls and Udon. They said Udon is not available for take out. I asked for California Rolls and Mixed Tempura, since my wife was willing to adapt. I was told that Mixed Tempura is only available in a combination plates which included Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki, or Salmon Teriyaki. It was made very clear that I did not want anything else just what I was asking for.
Since the representative was so unyielding in her interest in accommodating my requests, I just ended my attempts to try their highly acclaimed food. I can't even speak to their food because of their unyielding efforts to give me what I wanted.
Fantastic and friendly! The fish quality was superb. The staff greeted us with a flourish with some taps on the Japanese drum as we entered and sat us right away. Everything was fresh fresh fresh! The Hamachikama was cooked perfectly. Portion size was normal: not too big, not too small. We ate a ton of sushi and sashimi and stuffed ourselves to the gills. No disappointments. Exceeded our expectations. Looks like we found our new local sushi joint!
My Japanese boyfriend and I had our very first date and he loved the food, and enjoyed the relaxed family atmosphere; he also loves when they bang on the drum when people walk in.
I have found the place very Gay friendly, and have told many people about it, including how nice the male food servers are *grin.....if you are looking for a little bit of Japanese culture in Pasadena, check it out, I know you'll come back again and again.
The food is average but the rudeness of the waitress that is always there makes this a DEFINITE NO. There are far better Sushi restaurants in Pasadena where the staff are friendly and happy for your business.
This restaurant is a definite NO for my family.
Excellent food,I have been married to a Japanese woman specially being an artist(musician),Anyhow I always choose quality over quantity,And Sachi is the best Japanese restaurant I've personally ever been to,I would recommend the Beefy curry over rice,Once you try this dish you'll be a definite lover of it,A traditional Japanese dish unlike the trendy sushi scene everyone seems to be accustomed to,The sushi here though is excellent as well,I love the Saahimi here,Very fresh,The atmosphere is very cozy,Not at all a loud place,Which I treasure,Great place to take a date I might add,Wonderful friendly people,Especially Kaori(waitress)Who's been working there a while now,I stumbled upon this place by accident,One day I locked my keys in the trunk of my car and had to wait for my brother to bring a spare,As I was waiting in front of Sachi by my car I heard this beautiful flute playing Bach which I instantly recognized being a lover of Bach's music myself,It turned out to be Kaori on her lunch break practicing,I believe everything happens for a reason,And I thank God for this little gem of a place,in fact I'm on my way there tonight to eat some of that delicious beef curry rice ahhh,I can't wait !!!
This family own place is the best sushi in pasadena. I grow up in Pasadena and eaten at all the restaurants in town and as for sushi this is by far the best in town. Everybody who works there are the friendliest and more loving people there, they are happy to serve and accomdate you in anyway. You should try it.. and if it is your first time what better place to try good sushi so you will eat it again.. and may i suggest trying Osakaya Sake its really tasty
