Westport, Kansas City

Spent 6 weeks in April 1997 working for Smithsonian tour in KC...most every evening I'd stop by Westport on my way back to the my suite at the Plaza....most enjoyable evenings ever for me. So much diversity in entertainment....people etc. Might be not so good now...but I may have to stop again if I'm traveling thru KC just to see it again.

This was once a great place to enjoy nightlife and eat and drink the night away. Now it is simply taken over by the undesireables of the city causing fights, thefts and rude comments. If you value you life and your evening, the Plaza is a far better option. If you want a bit more night life, go to Power and Light and stay far away from Westport.

very interesting place to visit, we stay at the Hyatt and walk to the plaza and to Westport. the basement bar has an interesting crowd and always a good band. A great place to watch a good game at the sports bar. Do be careful and do not go alone. There are a couple of hotels in the area that are intersting to stay at also. A quick cab ride to concerts and downtown.

There is lots to do. Bars and entertanment to suit any taste. Beautiful old buildings, street performers. Check out the places to stay in the area otherwise stay at crowne plaza and ride the trolley down, you might need to take a taxi back if you plan to party late.

Westport is the bar and club capitol of Kansas City. It is artistic and culture-filled during the days and afternoons. There are a few really interesting and unique restaurants as well. Its a place for hipsters and varying cultures alike. In the evenings and at night parking is kind of at a premium; sometimes the crowds are too overbearing and raunchy at night on the weekends. Don't ever go Westport alone or end up there alone after 4:00pm especially if you are female. (I've even been there at like 10:00am in the morning several times and felt unsafe when I was alone. Just keep a look out like you should in any public place on the streets.) I'd recommend it if you want a good coffee after a meal in a hipster locale.

I spent one night in westport after a baseball game in KC and it was a great time. It was a little crowded in some bars, but there is enough places to go that we found one that was busy, but not too busy.

Some good nightclubs and bars in this area. If you're out for an evening on the town this is a great area to visit. I stayed one night at the Embassy Suites about 2 blocks away. You can walk to Westport or the Country Club Plaza from that hotel.
