Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
This artistic wonderland is housed in a splendid neoclassical structure that serves as a piece of work in itself. Collections of American and European art contain creations from the most prominent schools and periods, from artists such as Homer, Caravaggio, Monet, Titian, Rodin, Renoir and hundreds of others. Popular displays at the museum include the Chinese Temple Room, a sealed Egyptian tomb and an outdoor sculpture garden. A cafe and gift shop are also on-site. Admission is free. Call to know more.
I enjoyed its fine, but not encyclopedic collection of Old Master paintings, its delightful French Impressionist paintings(especially by Monet),its splendid Modern Art,its great Chinese collection, and the lovely atmosphere in this great place. It is free of charge, but very deserving of your donations.
Spectacular collections housed in a recently renovated jewel of a gallery/museum.
Chinese and Native American are among the deepest and broadest collections anywhere, though Modern, European and Decorative Arts, plus others, are awesome as well. If you dig national treasures don't miss this one!
This is a beautiful museum on the outside as well as the inside. Each room's wall color blended perfectly with the displayed art work. I was surprised to see art from so many well known artists from around the world.
There is a lot to see and I could have easily spent another day there. I've been to many art museums in Italy and the Nelson-Atkins is just as nice. Best of all there was no admission fee!
The value you here is great because it is free. There is some great art here and the landscape and architecture add to the great experience. We did pay for the special exhibition and loved it. This museum recently acquire the Hallmark Photograph Archive that increased its photo holdings from 1500 to 7500. This makes it one of the best museums in the word for photography. Near Country Club Plaza and Kemper contempary Museum so lots to do within walking distance.
I decided to visit this museum the day before I left Kansas City and was quite impressed. They have a beautiful tapestry that I took a picture of years ago that was a marvouls wonder. I must say that the collection was very impressive for the size of the museum. It should take about almost 2 hours of your time viewing each piece and collection. The exterior also has some great statute pieces that I encourage all to photograph. The admission was only a mere $15 dollars (at that time in 2001) and it is a great value. The art pieces are great and the statutes inside will amaze you. Definately a place for the whole family.
I thought this museum was amazing. Every where I go I try and go to an art museum, and this one by far tops them all! Every thing in this museum in breath taking and wonderful. There are paintings, sculptures from every religion, religions relics, and so much more. The best part is that it's all free!! A must see.
The Nelson has the most wonder collection of Asian art. It also has buddist temple that had been moved into the museum.
It is currently under renovation, but well worth going. There is something for every type of art lover. My husband doesn't appreciate art, but loves The Nelson. We take our son twice a year. They have wonderful traveling exhibits. I've been to many art museums in the country, but personally I just love this one.
