Grand St. Cafe
This Country Club Plaza favorite serves contemporary cuisine with a twist. Ingram's named this restaurant a Silver Ladle Award Winner. The dining room is colorful and inviting, with a splendid view of the Plaza action. The menu features seafood, steaks, pastas and daily specials. Try the seared Chilean Sea Bass, roasted chicken or veal chop. If you manage to save room for dessert, the restaurant's Creme Brulle is legendary. Outdoor dining is offered, weather permitting.
We had been to two company Christmas parties at the Grand Street Cafe and were really impressed with the quality of food for a large group, so we decided to go there for our 30th anniversary. My husband had contacted them ahead of time and when we arrived I found a dozen roses and a bottle of champagne chilling on the table - nice! They also provided us with a complimentary appetizer to help us celebrate. We chose the mushroom strudel - it was marvelous wrapped in a crispy phyllo dough with a really delicious sauce. In fact, the imaginative food combinations in their dishes is one of the strong points of this restaurant. We both love to try new things and we weren't disappointed in anything we had. The choice of wines is extensive and the server - Jason - was very knowledgable in his recommendations. I had heard that the desserts were terrific and they more than met my expectations. I had a chocolate sampler - five different delicious chocolate desserts on one plate to enjoy. We noticed quite a few tables of good friends really enjoying the evening, and we're planning to return with some of out friends who enjoy gourmet quality food to enjoy an evening together.
Food was great, the waiter was pleasant and very helpful. The variety of items of the menu was broad and appealed to every person in our group. In addition, the salad bar was just the icing on the cake in terms of choices for great food items, from shrimp to fresh fruit. Thanks..It was great!
I went with 8 other people for a business dinner and the service was horrible. It took forever to get the one appetizer we ordered. One person ordered scallops only to find out, after everyone received their main course, that they were out of scallops and she would have to order something else. Same thing happened with her dessert! The food wasn't even as good as I expected.
This restuarant is nowhere near a five star establishment. Their food is extremely overpriced and their consistency is terrible. Please don't read the previous reviews, they are from people with an obvious stake in the restuarant.
It was our first time dining in this restaurant. A little hesitant at first since it contained "Cafe" in it's name, but it turned out to be more then I expected with a surprise date with my wife.
The food was superb and the atmosphere was fitting for a nice evening with my wife. Highly recommend the scallops, house salad, and desert if you have the room.
Not only was my filet perfectly cooked as ordered, but the staff were so personal and gracious. They made us comfortable while we waited for entire party to arrive and welcomed whatever requests we had...It is now on my list as an all time favorite and just made our Xmas celebration one that will always stand out.
(its also great to have a view of the Plaza/Lights- yet just out of range of the madness that sometimes goes with it!)
