Comerica Park

Description

The Detroit Tigers, charter members of Major League Baseball's American League, abandoned historic Tiger Stadium at the close of the 1999 season. Their new home is close to team owner Mike Ilitch's holdings in the downtown Theatre District. Named after a bank whose funds made its creation possible, Comerica Park has something of a circus like atmosphere with enormous sculptures of tigers, bats and balls, as well as a carousel and ferris wheel. Fancy food and pricey amenities abound, and baseball seems to take second place to entertainment. Sight lines are clear but upper-deck seats are distant.

bad intimacy; game is a rumor
By fast eddie, 8/9/09
seats should hover over the action; instead its like folding chairs at a soccor game; poor perspective and sightline.

Very impressed!
By Nicholas, 5/16/09
I was very impressed with this park. You can tell that it is only ten years old. Some how this park has a completely different feel to it than comes across on T.V. I thought this park had a very friendly and intimate feel to it. Also, the grass is as thick and green as I have ever seen in my entire life. Not one "bald spot". It is also very family focused, with rides and fairly polite fans. I thought they had a pretty good food court and a little bar under the right field stands too. I did have a few problems though. The stand that sells Tiger hats and shirts was outrageously expensive! They don't post the prices, then you feel cheap when you don't want to pay, like $75 for a ball cap. I saw one guy ask about a price on a t-shirt and just roll his eyes and walk away. Another thing is that they should have built a dome like many clubs, even in Florida are doing these days. I spent six hours at Comerica because of two rain delays. A third minor complaint is that they only sell about three types of beer at the nearby concession stands and the walking vendors. You can easily spend about $60 on beer if you are like me. Next time I am bringing a flask! Other than this I had a great time watching the Tigers beat on the A's 14 to 1, including 2 grand slams!

Bring the Family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/23/09
Comerica is one cool ballpark. The fans are passionate and well-behaved. Right field porch offers qualift affordable seats. The tiger hall of fame is a nice touch. The only reason I did not give this park 5 stars was because the stands sit so far back from the field of play. For this reason Comerica park lacks an intimate feel.

Bring the Binonculars
By Steven, 10/21/08
As long as you sit in premium seating Comerica Park is great. A majority of the seats sit so far from the field that it you feel as if you are watching the game from a roof top across the street. Also, the slope of the seating is so minimal that it is very difficult if not impossable for short people as well as kids to see over the people in the front rows. This ball park is unaffordable for many families unfortunately. Besides the seating, this is a nice ballpark.

Good Time
By Linda, 6/14/08
Fun and lots to do. Kids area is great. Good exhibits of team history to see. Food and teamwear have good choices but expensive. Beautiful stadium. Splurge on the Tiger Den seats-- lots of leg room and comfy seats.

Handicap dropoff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/11/07
The police have so many roads blocked off and you can't turn on the street reserved for handicap dropoff. I have to drop my husband in an alley behind Fox Theatre and he has to cross Woodward Ave. in his wheelchair. He has to dodge traffic and throngs of people. Inside the stadium all the able bodied people use the elevator so he has to go up the ramp to his seat. Everyone knows that people with spinal cord injuries cannot control there body temperature. There is no shade from the sun or wind, let alone rain. An electric wheelchair doesn't work well in the rain. The stadium is beautiful but doesn't anyone consult the handicapped before they construct these things? We can't afford for both of us to attend the game. So my husband has to struggle alone. The Metrolift service is so unreliable at night he cannot use it to go to the games anymore at night.

Coamerica Park
By NMENIGMA, 8/12/07
One of the best new stadiums. I love the seating in the boxes. The wooden chairs and tables are great. I love the views too. You can see the Detroit skyline, the new Ford Stadium, and the seagulls are a riot.
