Description

Keeping the island's history alive is the goal of the Nantucket Historical Association. Many of the museums and historical sites on Nantucket fall under the NHA's umbrella, which makes it an excellent place to start when taking a tour of the island. Purchase a membership to receive admission to all of the NHA's sites and immerse yourself in the island's past. Individual memberships provide far more benefits other than just museum entrance fees.

EXCELLENT VALUE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/11/06
We purchased tickets at the whaling museum where we spent a whole morning among the fascinating exhibits and spent the rest of the week going around the various historical sites. The tickets were great value for money, and the guided tours were very entertaining and educational. I now know what 'sleep tight' means and also the origins of 'dead as a door nail'. The guides were very pleasant and informative and obviously passionately interested in their subjects. I would definately recommend Nantucket Historical Society to visitors.

History came alive for Wally and Susie!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/12/05
History comes alive during the presentations of the historians at the Nantucket Whaling Museum! When you visit the Windmill, you can actually purchase corn meal that they ground. Wally enjoyed grinding corn at the windmill, then, going to the Jethro Coffin House to bake the corn meal into corn bread. Well, maybe he enjoyed eating the cornbread best with butter he had just churned. Susie dipped candles! Their children's program really enhanced their visit to Nantucket: They learned by participating.
