The Plantations are a complex of museums devoted to early American life. The art museum contains antique toys and the largest collection of Currier and Ives lithographs in the country. A 1912 carousel is a favorite with children. A replica of a Shaker roundhouse contains antique cars. Antique firearms and uniforms are on display in the Military Museum. Charles Dexter, the original owner, spent years here planting and perfecting varieties of rhododendrons.

Lovely grounds, interesting museums
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/07/07
One of the previous posters seems to be more than a little confused. There is no one in character at Heritage and no one attempting to demonstrate how people lived and worked in the past. That's Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, not Heritage Plantation (now called Heritage Musuem and Gardens) in Sandwich. Nevertheless, Heritage does have beautiful grounds that include walking trails and several history and art musuems.

A favorite spot
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/21/05
At all times of year, something wonderful is going on at Heritage: beautiful blossoms throughout the spring and summer, lovely foliage in the fall, and deer tracks on the snow in the winter. The Christmas lights are worth a drive, too. The gardens are impeccably maintained, and the staff are friendly and well informed.

Going Back in July
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/10/05
If you are a history nut like I am, then you will love this experience. The people are in character all over the plantation, you get to see how people lived and worked back then. I went when I was a child and thought it was "cool", and when I went as an adult I thought it was even better.
