4th of July on the Esplanade
This concert on the Charles River Esplanade, begun by late Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler in 1974, has become a nationally known holiday tradition. The evening's high point is the fireworks display over the Charles River, timed to begin just as the 1812 Overture reaches its climax. The Pops usually bring a roster of pop music and political stars to help inspire revelers with patriotic spirit. If you go, arrive early; people begin showing up a day in advance, and crowds can be as large as a half-million people. Admission is free.
My sister got me hooked on the fireworks in Boston about 6 years ago, and will not miss for anything now. It is such a wonderful show, the fireworks, the music, the Pops, and the general atmosphere. Love is so much, I will have a few dreams about the 4th.
I love it,Seeing it on Tv is one thing, but to go there in person will make your hair stand up straight.Especially since 911.Everyone is so patriot and you can feel the love and support for our wonderful counrty.I wish I could go every year. And I think every year gets better and better.A Must see.
Its so nice! We went in on a last minute idea and it was probably the most spectcular thing Ive ever seen in my LIFE!! The fire works LITTERALY take up the ENTIRE sky! Its amazing! There is so much Patriotism there. You can taste the excitement in the air! I recommend going at least once in your life! I intend to for the rest of mine!
This has to be rated much higher, it is one of the most spectacular events on earth. Where else can you enjoy a day in the park, the greatest pops orchestra with great guest stars and the best fireworks display accentuated by the Boston Pops.
This is the best 4th of July in the country. I've been lucky enough to witness it from a roof deck looking out on the water for the past few years, and it's spectacular. But if your going to sit on the lawn, come very, very early. Earlier than what you think is early. It's extremely popular and it fills up super fast, so get your spot and don't give it up. If your going to take the T (subway), be warned: It is VERY crowded and hot. But seeing the show is worth it. Don't miss it!
Great atmosphere and free concert by a premier orchestra. Sit along the bank of the Charles for the best view of fireworks or show up *early* to get a seat in front of the performance stage to see the concert. Just beware of sitting too close to the canons!
It was a wonderful experience! The only thing to keep in mind is that you must get there EARLY!! Stake out a good spot (whether you want to be close to the music, or the fireworks) and STAY THERE!!! DONT LEAVE!! If you leave, SOMEONE WILL TAKE YOUR SPOT!!!! the experience is worth it all!!!
I am a musician and have been to the 1999 and 2000 Time Square Count Down as well as both Disneys. They all great but I have to say the 4th of July on the Esplanade is by far the best show ever! The government close the highway so you could actually practice rollerblade there, have picnic with your friends with fantastic river view. And when the night approaches, the music, the river, the nice weather of Boston, the fireworks, just makes you wanna kiss everybody around you. By the way, the rhythm of the fireworks actually matches the music, it is how good they are!!
