Description

Get a feel for Boston with a stroll along 17 miles of riverside paths and parks. Watch sailboats and racing college crews on the Charles River Esplanade. On summer evenings, there is free music at the Hatch Memorial Shell, and there are always hundreds of walkers, joggers, bikers, dog-walkers and sunbathers enjoying the view. The best way to reach the river is via the Arthur Fiedler footbridge, which is close to the intersection of Beacon and Arlington Streets in the Back Bay, or via the pedestrian bridge near the Charles/MGH T station.

celebrate freedom

as a child of immigrant parents,throughout my childhood,i was taught to cherish "freedom". not until i had my own 4 children & made the 4th esplanade concert a yearly event did i realize/appreciate what a gem we (here in massachusetts) had. the venue,shell,pops,event but,most of all the opportunity to celebrate our freedom. thank you angela mcgrath p.s.this year i watched from home & did not think the program was as good,i personally perfer the "old traditional" program/music & performers that are indigenous to the area. thanks

Great place to work out or hang out

The esplanade is a great place to go running, people watch, or do homework. It is like the big back yard you don't get when you live in the city, not that Boston is short on green space by any means. The only thing you need to know is that it isn't a place you should go when it is dark. Because it is removed from the center of things, it isn't the safest place when people aren't all around. There is also a homeless population that you'll see mainly on the Boston side of the river.
