An absolute MUST VISIT if near Cambridge
This store is by FAR one of my most favorite stores of any type, anywhere. The store has the exact same layout as it did in the late 19th century (look at historical photos for proof!) and carries a fine and wide range of products.
The store carries a very decent selection of cigars including some obscure and difficult to find selections. They also carry a *full* line of smoking accessories, including many pipes, tools, filters, cigarettes and more. Loose tobacco is available in a number of varieties, by the ounce, for pipe smoking. They offer Guillotine, V-cut and punch cuts for your cigars, package individual cigars in ziplocks without needing to ask, proffer matches and are also knowledgeable on all of their cigars. The salesman has seemed to have smoked all of them.
The store carries much more than tobacco products, though. Shaving implements, including straight-blade and safety razors, badger brushes and shaving soaps are available, as are a wide line of men's toilertries. I picked up several varieties of excellently milled European soaps on my last trip there.
The store has an upstairs with chess tables you can rent for $2 an hour, and plenty of other goodies such as flasks, pens, steins, classic gameboards and chess supplies, etc.
The salesman is the most knowledgable salesman I have encountered to date. Not only does he have a commanding knowledge of all of his products in-store, but an impressively wide knowledge of all things relating to them. If you are anywhere in the Cambridge or Boston area, it is highly worth dropping in even if just to soak up the aroma of days past and the history steeped in the antique wood floors and paneling.
