There are flashier, trendier, even bigger bookstores in the Boston area, but New England Mobile Book Fair is a gem. The place is simply enormous. Books are organized by publisher, which sometimes slows down the selection process, but it is necessary to this wholesaler. The store seems to have everything, from children's books to that abstruse classic that you have been meaning to read since college.

I never leave without a book
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/21/07
this place takes getting used to. The organization is different, and requires some thinking to find what you want. But the people are ever-cheerful and helpful (especially Reg in travel) and you will almost always find what you are looking for, and almost as often something you weren't looking for too.

California visitor
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/14/06
I live in California and visit the Boston/Newton area at least twice a year..My first stop has always been the Mobile Book Fair..I love books, and this place is a haven for anyone who loves to shop for, and read books, or listen to tapes...great place to buy gifts for friends and relatives, and the prices are right..The atmoshphere is quite conducive to just browsing, and soaking in all the titles that surround you...Enjoy.

Excellent place to shop for books, when they have them.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/10/05
Fantastic place to buy books! The only negative I have found over the years of shopping there is that they seem to have no ways of knowing when to re-order books. They use the old fashioned system of ringing up sales manually on the cash register, so there appears to be no way they know when copies of particular books are getting low. I estimate they have lost thousands of dollars in sales from me over the years. So, if you find a copy of a book you want, better grab it, especially if it's the only one left. It might be months or years before they notice to re-order. Other than that, it's a lot of fun browsing their stacks! If you love books, this is the place to be!

New England Mobile Book Fair, Inc., Newton Highlands, Ma.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/04
This wonderful store is the antithesis of its name - never could be mobile - there are too many rooms, and too many books. But what a place to get lost for a day - or a life time ! ! ! There are rooms full of every subject under the sun. New books, OP titles, and lots of discount clearance titles as well. Bring a friend or several and have a wonderful time working with John or Melinda or Emil or anyone else handy.

Best Bookstore
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/16/04
Even though it is organized by publisher, items are still easy to find with their computer system. The prices are low, the inventory is enormous and I travel for almost an hour to this most excellent bookstore every month or two for new books.

Best bookstore in NE
By MarcyW, 07/14/04
This amazing location has every book you're looking for outside of Amazon.com!
The shelves are set up by publisher which is confusing on the first visit.
Computers are available for look up plus the staff is great.
Great kids books and study guides.
Check out the bargain books for real deals.
Expect long lines during the holidays and on rainy weekends - though the staff does keep the lines moving quickly.
Aisles are narrow so don't bring strollers, backpacks, etc.
