A hidden gem on Prince Street in Boston's North End , this intimate eatery offers great food in an elegant atmosphere. Sculptures decorate little alcoves and white linen cover the tables. Chef Jam Navaraj creates memorable Italian cuisine. Try Tortellini in a Lobster Cream Sauce or Spaghetti Alla Puttenesca. Loyal patrons love the Risotto. The wine cellar features more than 120 vintages sold by the bottle or the glass. After dinner, retire to the handsome bar for bit of cognac.
I found Assaggio by asking my mother's uncle - who has lived his entire life in Boston - where to take a date in the North End. He was certainly right. While Assaggio doesn't take reservations on the weekends, which is busiest time, the wait is never more than 30-45minutes and the house is constantly packed. Eat downstairs if you can. It's a nice quiant feeling with tatched ceiling and wines winding throughout. Upstairs is elegant as well. You cannot go wrong with the food here. I have eaten at Assaggio more than anywhere else in the North End and have never been disappointed. The mussels fra diavolo are amazing. Perfect spice. The sword fish is great as well. The homemade pasta dishes are wonderful, and any veal dish you get will be amazing. Assaggio boasts of a great wine selection, which it does has, but other area restaurants may be able to one-up it when it comes to wine. Enjoy. I think Assaggio is the best place in the North End. Mama Maria, which is the best according to Zagat, doesn't even touch it!
