Toscanini's, Cambridge

during a week long visit with an MIT student we took the opportunity to have ice cream at about four different locations troughout Boston/Cambridge and Toscanini's was far and away the best. We both had cones of a chocolate combo (don't remember the specific name) that was the richest ice cream I've had for some time. We had no problems finishing off our "small" cones. They were well worth the price. The atmoshpere was what you would expect for an ice cream shop: small and comfortable.

Just came back from Toscanini after they kicked me out without even letting me finish my drink! they claimed they do not allow students to study there on Sunday mornings, while there were many other people studying there! they were rude and said that if we want to be the study police we should go out side. We were just 2 people and each of us bought breakfast and drinks! We are not going there ever again! Students.

First off, you enter and it has a really great vibe. The staff are friendly and all kinds of interesting people are usually hanging out (the kind that are just naturally interesting and not fronting). The ice cream is made on premise and there is a wide and rotating variety of flavors. They are reknown for their chocolate flavors and espescially Chocolate Sluggo, however my fav of favs is Banana Fosters: banana ice cream (REAL bananas, not some chemical mix) made with dark rum. If you see it, get it: its not a regular flavor and it disappears within a day of the batch being made! ALL of the spice flavors are awesome, as are the fruit flavors. Lots of spiked flavors for the adults. The offerings are rounded out by great coffee, hot chocolate, and hot vanilla (and yes you can float a scoop on these. Mmmm!) As a bonus, they often exhibit local artists so you can see what people are seeing while enjoying your treat... I take all my out of guests here; they always ask to come back when they're in town!
