National Museum of Dentistry

Description

In 1840, Baltimore became home to the world's first college of dentistry. Today, this museum offers a fascinating and fun-filled look at the history of dental medicine. Highlights at the National Museum of Dentistry include historical dental tools, a giant mouth-shaped juke-box and a set of George Washington's dentures, which, by the way, were not wooden! For those interested in medicine it's a pleasant, informative diversion.

It will make you smile!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/17/07
This is a terrific museum. Very interesting and fun. The history of dentistry and products used to care for teeth is amazing and very extensive. You will find yourself saying, "Wow! I didn't know that!" And some of the displays of products and devices are actually quite funny by the standard of care that we know today. The museum will delight everyone from dentists to children. Of course, you will be able to see several sets of George Washington's teeth and you'll have a lot of sympathy for him, but also be amazed by the craftsmanship. It is worth seeing if you are ever in Baltimore.

Good stuff here and especially entertaining for those who aren't afraid of the dentist. George Washington's teeth (they weren't wooden-- who knew!?!) are worth the admission alone.

Something to Smile About!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/18/05
Even if it's been more than the requisite 6 months since you've last sat in a dental chair, a trip to the NAtional Museum of Dentistry should definitely be added to your Baltimore itinerary. Tons of fun for everyone!
