Grant Park stretches from the Museum Campus at Lake Shore Drive and Roosevelt Road all the way north to the Prudential building, with Columbus Drive on its west side and the lake on its east. At one time, this stretch of land was undeveloped and a prime target for builders. However, department store magnate Montgomery Ward did not want the lake view from his Michigan Avenue office obstructed, so he successfully lobbied the city to create Grant Park. The grounds bloom with rose gardens in the summer and the famous Buckingham Fountain springs to life. The Petrillo Band Shell is home to the Grant Park Music Festival and also hosts such events as Jazz Fest, Celtic Fest and Blues Fest. Perhaps the park is most famous for The Taste of Chicago, a culinary festival which happens every year in late June and early July.
There is no city park that can compare to Grant Park! This is coming from a Texan who travels around the 48 states. Have yet to seen anything close to the atmosphere, the outstanding views the park gives you of the city buildings. Who says you have to be in the south to get some southern hospitality, I get it in the Windy City!!!
Just all the Grant district. Good people, specktacular music (Hot House), Patty Burger(s), the Art Institute! But Millenium is the future now- the speakers system/scultptures. Also some of the most impressive architecture in N America!
I loved this park because parts of it were nice and calm and offered a great retreat from city life. Other parts of the park remind you that you're in Chicago and offer amazing skyline and water views.
Chicago is very diverse just like San Francisco~~ The skyline of Chicago is just breath taking.. I love the water.. If you like style and grace all wrap up in one well Chicago is the place for you!!!!!!!!!!! :0)
