great
By ,
We had a CityPass and it was worth it to get into the special exhibits and the movie. We were mainly there to see the dinosaurs for my son, but we all enjoyed the museum. The building is beautiful and there are very educational exhibits. If you like the topics of the exhibits, you will love the museum. Bring snacks/water to avoid the cost and lines at the cafe. Get there early b/c it will be packed with daycare/park and rec/school kids by the afternoon.

Its a must see!
By ,
We really enjoyed Sue and the area downstairs about Egypt. The Museum itself is a sight to behold, it is huge and built like a Roman Chappel. My City Pass didn't get me into all the exhibits but outside of that I enjoyed the day at the Field.

the building itself is very impressive, its beautiful, but the displays seemed not taken care of, they could defaintly do alot more with it. It was acutally kinda boring and lacked excitment.

Wish I had more time
By ,
I only had two full days in Chicago and I really didn't want to spend my time in museuems. I decided to go here when I found out that the Lions of Tsavo were here. I got there right when it opened and I was the only person in the whole wing where the lions were, which made it somewhat creepy. The museum was amazing and even though I kept trying to get out of there I ended up spending over four hours there and still didn't see even half of the exhibits. Next time I go to Chicago I will set aside more time to do the Field Museum justice.

Little Dissapointed
By ,
Maybe its because im not really that into history and stuff of that nature, but i was a little dissapointed....was expecting way more, so maybe thats why.....that life size fossil of the T-Rex Sue was insane, loved that...and all the dinosaur displays.......maybe my expectations were too high or something....great place to take the family and kids though.

Some good, some bad.
By ,
The Field Museum is pretty interesting. My parents, boyfriend and myself all visited over the summer and we had an okay time. It was well worth the price of admission. I was most interested in the Mummy exibit. (And of course Sue!) These exibits were alot of fun! They have loads of mummies and little models of how the process was done. Africa was alot of fun too. It puts you in the position of a slave in one part. Unfortunatly, there are alot of the same items shown over and over. (Ancient Americas; Hall of Animals.) There is alot to see here so try not to waste time looking at one thing for too long. They give you a map when you arrive so decide what you want to see then. You can always go back to other things later. Customer satisfaction seems to be lacking. We were getting on the elevator to go back to the top floor and a worker made some rude comments to us when we were trying to be friendly with her. We had to be led out because they shut the lights off and it was too dark to find our own way out. *They will rush you out and turn the lights off at 5PM.

Too big and noisy
By ,
This can be a nice museum, depending on how much time you have. This museum is HUGE. It can be exhausting looking at everything here. If you are one of these people who likes to read about what you are seeing in the exhibits, you might want to make this a two day trip. It takes forever justing LOOKING at the exhibits. The other bad thing about this museum is that there really isn't a good time to come here. If you visit during the weekend, it will be packed. If you come during a weekday, you have to put up with annoying and noisy school kids. Most of these kids show no interest in the museum, but rather seem to take the time that they have out of the classroom to socialize or act as if they are at a playground.

AMNH Abridged
By ,
For anyone who has ever visited the American Museum of Natural History and is afraid the Field just won't live up to its east coast counterpart, fear not. The Field Museum, though smaller, certainly does not leave you disappointed. The Field has a great atmosphere with great exhibits and a surprisingly modern feel. It also is conveniently located near the Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium just in case you have a hankering for an ultra-cultural experience. Which is why I call it, AMNH, Abridged.
