American Girl Place
When Louisa May Alcott penned her classic book Little Women, she probably never imagined that an American retail center would someday pay such a complete tribute to young girls, too. Just around the corner from the Magnificent Mile shopping district, this three-story complex features a photo studio, doll hair salon, a cafe offering delicious meals, and a shop featuring American Girls dolls and clothing. Girls aged four and up will find this an irresistible getaway. Be sure to visit the website to preview upcoming events and special packages.
I went to the American Girl Place last month with my daughter, Elizabeth. She has three dolls: Josephina, Kaya, and Elizabeth. We went during the afternoon, and it was very crowded. Girls of all ages were running around the place. Even though it was full of people, I thought it was nice. There were so many outfits available and it was pleasant. My daughter picked out three outfits and after we checked out, she was so happy.
The three floors were all full, but my daughter finally got her turn to the hair salon. She had brought all her dolls, but I told her to only style one. She chose her favourite, Elizabeth. She styled it in braids. After we paid the fee, we went to the cafe. It was pretty loud, but the atmosphere was light and nice. She placed her doll in its own chair and she talked during the whole time. She would say that the food was delicious, or that she wanted to come back, and that next time we came she wanted to style Kaya's hair instead. All in all, the American Girl Place was a fun, yet crazy place to be. I definitely would come back and I do recommend you to bring your daughter or niece here. Even though American Girl Dolls are pricey, I do think they are worth the money. And the Place was worth it, too.
I grew up with the Samantha American Girl doll so I was dying to go to the American Girl Place in Chicago. My boyfriend wasn't too thrilled but he went along with it. It was the night of the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival so the area was packed as it was. The store had a line of people wanting to get in and out so we pushed through the crowd and made our way in. There are 3 stories of American Girl galore. There is a restraunt, a doll hair salon, displays everwhere of the dolls different outfits and all the different bedroom set ups. You can of course buy things for your dolls too of course. They have a little baby area as well for the baby dolls American Girl sells. Lots of fun for girls of all ages!
