Knishmas at the Cubby Bear
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/25/07
I had a feeling that hanging around at a bar on Xmas Eve was a good idea. I don't drink, but December 23 is traditionally Knishmas for Jews. We still celebrate, generally the end of the retail season with music and cards.
But imagine my surprise how much fun it could, going to a really roomy establishment with good beer on tap (okay, I had one) and Jewish rockers, one better than the next, at the mike on a decent sound stage.
This is apparently traditional in Wrigleyville on Xmas Eve, and this year Adam Davis brought the bands the the Cubby Bear. Even Sh'siyah (the biggest and the bestest of Chicago Jewish rockers), Miriam & Ilan (your more traditional duet rock), Moshe Averick, Rav Shmuel Skase (I may have spelled his name wrong, but he's a ranter and a writer and plays guitar/ukele, and a rabbanit from the University of Maryland, but I didn't get her name had us smiling.
Thumbs up to the Cubby Bear. It was a lot of fun.
