This award-winning theater was established by five Northwestern University graduates in 1982 and, under the leadership of Artistic Director Dorothy Milne, thrives today with a 3-play MainStage season and a 3-play KidSeries season dedicated to original literary adaptations. The Lifeline ensemble of artists uses imaginative, unconventional staging to portray sprawling stories in an intimate space; past productions include 'Jane Eyre,' 'Around the World in 80 Days,' 'The Count of Monte Cristo,' 'Neverwhere,' and the entire 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. Rush tickets (for MainStage shows) and 'Name Your Price' tickets (for KidSeries shows) are available.
I have been to this theatre 3 times in the last 18 months to see three splendid productions, Queen Lucia, The Talisman Ring, and Gaudy Night. These productions were done in spectacular fashion by the theatre company in very confined spaces, making them both believable and personal. The venue is one I would recommend to anyone interested in good stories, well told, and enthusiastically performed by very talented actors.
