Lawry's The Prime Rib
Yes, it is owned by the "Seasoned Salt" people, and, yes, it does have the best prime rib in the city. If you are not in the mood for all the theme restaurants in the vicinity, make your reservation and head over to this converted mansion, which now houses an elegant steak house. At dinner, the only entree is the famed prime rib, served to you on a silver platter. The lunch menu has more variety, but what did you come here for, anyway, salad?
Dining areas are very nice and service was above average except for forgetting an espresso and having "sides" come out too late.
Sadly the prime rib would have better served as the base for meatloaf. It was very tough (med-rare)and just to add difficulty you cut it with a butter knife on a plate way too small to hold everything. Eventually part of your meal ends up on the table or the lap of the person at yours side.
Overall not a good experience even before factoring in the higher than average price.
Dropped in for lunch on a Monday. If I worked in Chicago, I would come here for lunch all the time. The sandwich bar is excellent quality and a fantastic value. The setting is elegant and the service prompt. The prime rib was the best I've had. mmmm. You couldn't ask for more.
Top Notch and world class all around! Beautiful old building, beautiful interior! Will go out of their way if you need wheelchair access, ramps/elevators to all levels! Take a date or have a business dinner, it will seal either deal wink* wink*! Best Prime Rib in the World, the mash potatoes are the best too lol! I can't give the place a higher praise!
Searching through the information books in our hotel, my friend was in charge of finding our Saturday night dinner destination. We were on the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue) and really wanted a place to which we could walk and enjoy the October night. He suggests "Lorie's" and then calls to make a reservation.
When we arrive, I realize it is Lawry's (pr. L-OW-ry's). After a bit of a laugh, we walk in and let the hostess know that we have arrived. The place was packed with all types: casual jeans and pullovers, black tie, and everything in between. Even with reservations, the wait is almost an hour, so we find a place to enjoy a glass of wine and talk.
The waiting areas could have been a bit quieter, more conducive to conversation and relaxing before dinner, but everything was well appointed, cared for, and the service was excellent.
The menu is simple and straightforward and the staff was amazing. Great attention is paid to you and your order, and the food was delicious.
This was great for the two of us, and even a smaller party (up to 8 or so), but beyond that it seemed to be less-than-conveniently equipped for much more than that. The tables are close together making navigation interesting.
All in all, a good time out!
Dinner starts with their delicious "spinning salad" with their famous vintage dressing. Even if you're not a huge fan of prime rib, you will make an exception for Lawry's prime rib. It's out of this world. The prime rib dinner comes with yorkshire pudding and mashed potatoes that are equally amazing. If you find room for dessert, which is not an easy task, the banana coconut cream pie is really good. They also make very good chocolate martinis. Although it is pricy, the quality of food and service makes it well worth it.
This colorful taverna in Greektown is well worth the short trek from downtown. The menu mixes standard Greek fare, including
a flaming Saganaki cheese appetizer and traditional lamb and chicken dishes, with more interesting offerings like pan fried squid. ...
