Island Seaplane Service
Located just adjacent to Honolulu International Airport, this service allows visitors to see Honolulu and the island of O'ahu from high above. Owner/Pilot Pat Magie and his wife Debbie own two sturdy DeHavilland "Beavers." They take off and land in beautiful Ke'ehi lagoon, providing views of the Koolau and Waianae mountain ranges, the exquisite beaches on all sides of the island and dramatic Diamond Head reigning over Waikiki Beach.
do the shark cage thing on the north shore takes you out three miles and when you go in the cage the water is so clear my son and i did it and there were about 30 sharks swimming around us kind of scary but i would sure do it again very exciting, but go on a calm day
Wonderful, personal service with knowledgeable and colorful delivery (thanks to our pilot, Tom). We can't wait to come back next year and visit some more. Be sure to site with Pat for the great advice and wonderful stories-- don't miss the chance to learn and laugh from a living aviation master.
We took this trip on a friend's recommendation. I had to do a little soothing since my wife is afraid of small airplanes. Also, it was kind of windy, a "trade wind day" as they say here. My wife forgot all about being afraid very quickly. First was the rather unique experience of being in an airplane out on the water. Then after takeoff, the bumpy air along Waikiki was actually kind of pleasant - not hard bumps like in a big airplane, more like a rocking chair or little waves...maybe we were going slow or something. Anyway, the great views and the pilot's commentary quickly convinced me we had discovered the deal of the century. There is no other way to see this incredibly beautiful island, or to understand what we were looking at. We took the one-hour tour, and got geology, beaches, movies and stars' homes, history, and scenery all the way. I don't know if its usual, but we finished up by flying right over Pearl Harbor and looking down at the battleship Missouri and the Arizona - you can see it under the water!! Perfect Day, highlight of our trip. Do it, do it!!
My husband and I took the Island Seaplane of Honolulu in March 2006. It was absolutely wonderful! The pilot "Captain Pat" was very entertaining and informative. We saw so many areas that we could not have seen by car. We were very impressed and would recommend this tour to everyone!
I took my first seaplane flight with Island Seaplane Service last week and it was fantastic. The views were spectacular; especially the interior mountain ranges and valleys that are not accessible by car.
While seeing the beautiful sights of Oahu from the air was reason enough to go, the flight itself is another great aspect of the experience.
I'd never flown in anything smaller than a commuter plane and was surprised at how smooth the flight was. Along with providing a more comfortable ride than on Oahu's roads, the pilot is also your tour guide pointing out the island's popular and lesser-known sights.
Overall, this was a great experience and I recommend it to anyone wanting to see Oahu in a different way.
