We were booked with this company through Great Life Tours and it was great. Our first tour was the Grand circle island tour with Garfield. When taking this tour request that guide. He was AWESOME!! Very knowledgeable and filled in the drive time with tid bits about Hawaiian history and places to see. The second tour was the Arizona. All the tours were very well laid out and initiated.
I purchased my tickets online thru viator and called the tour company to confirm pickup. I was told pick up will be at 6:30 am from our hotel the next day. In the morning at 6 am I called them to confirm....I happened to read the reviews of this company unfortunately after I had already booked my tickets. Well I was told that I was not in the system and the tour bus was fully booked! My 4 yr old was heartbroken....he was up at 5:30am ready to go. We couldn't book another tour b/c it was our last day in Hawaii:( I would not give any stars if possible.
We went on the volcano tour and we only saw 1 and I will repeat it only 1 Volcano. What is the point of saying its a volcano tour when its not. It was a 12 hour excursion and it was so horrible. We went all around the Big Island, hey there's an idea call it Big Island Tour. The only stops I enjoyed was the Waterfall and the Black Sand Beach. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
It was not worth it... we took the tour because rental of a mini van was no available. The driver of the bus started out driving at the counter clock direction which take longer due to one way traffic so we only had about 20 minutes to visit each of the place that he stopped (lunch was for 1 hour)
I thought that we are going to stop at the north shore for lunch so I can taste the garlic shrimps from Giovanni's truck and shaved ice @ Matsumoto's but instead we stopped for lunch at ranch... The driver handed out a coupon of $2 for the buffet but it ended up costing each person $15 for a buffet lunch that consist of bbq rib and chicken, steamed rice and vegie, tossed salad , pineapple and water melon as desert. The only drink they offered was a guava punch. The food were horrible.
The driver was nice but almost every single story that came out of his mouth was related to his family...
Taking the local bus to visit North Shore and other places on the island would give you more time to check the place out and save you $ as well (round trip bus fare is $2.50 for adult and $1.25 for children and student)
We booked our tour in May and our tour was not until June. Our cards were charged and we went to the airport and no one showed up. We then tried to call to figure out what happened and our reservation was cancelled by a different island office. However, the number I was talking with refused to help until 45 minutes later and a lot of complaining. It was then found that they cancelled our order and never notified us and still charged us. Then they were trying to add us to another tour but took too long and we missed that as well. Unforuntaley we didn't make it to any tours. We were told that we woudl recieve an immediate refund and it has been 30 days and I still have not recieved it. Not only did there company mess up when cancelling, didn't call us, still charged us, has yet to refund us and didnt return calls we wasted money for 7 people to get a taxi to the airport and back that we didn't need and had to pay extra interest on the money even thought it should have been refunded.
I was greatly disappointed in the service we recieve and also because it was our gift to our wedding attendents which made our wedding to have a poor association with it.
Bus tours from Poly Adv are good if you want to see the island and dont plan to rent a car. Otherwise, I think bus tours are a waste. Of the two, I prefer Roberts hawaii bus tours. The one day tours are a good idea, however you cannot see an island in a day. I think you will be disapointed if you just go for one day. Plus, you are on their schedule. Poly Adv doesnt have the best customer service I have experience, especially at their reservations office.
The most important thing for me on my trip was to see a volcano. We were told which was the most active and judged our trip accordingly. we flew over to the big island for two days. At the beginning we were told that we may be disappointed as the lava may not be visably flowing that day. We were prepared for this but we were never given a chance to get near the vent. We were dropped off about 2.5 miles from the vent and told that it would take approx 2.5 hours to get to the vent and back. We were given 1(ONE) hour to do this in. Then our guide told us that he has left people behind who were late. Everyone I spoke to was upset but as we hadnt reached the actual volcano yet we didnt complain as we all expected to see more. And we did - steam vents. I can see that by turning on my left hand kitchen tap. In all other aspects of the tour I was impressed but as this is what ALL of us came to see I had to give it a two star rating and that is being generous. $500 + wasted.
Most of the tours we went on were through the Polynesian Adventure Tour. Every tour guide we had were VERY friendly and knew so much about the history of Hawaii and about every place we went. I will recommend to everyone to book there tours with them.
