The tragic occurrences and subsequent world-changing events associated with this naval base make it a crucial part of American history and heritage. While the harbor is quite large, the Visitor's Center and Arizona Memorial are the hubs of tourism. Several tours are available through activity brokers or tour companies. To reach Pearl Harbor from Waikiki Beach, take Nimitz Highway past the airport to Highway 99, and continue past the naval community.
1941's AIR RAID ??!!! AIR RAID ?
As I recall, it was a Sneak Attack . An unprovoked act of Terrorism, with well over 1000 unsuspecting military and civilians murdered .
Just curious here , but History is not your strong suit , is it ?
I'm not even into history... AT ALL. But my husband and I were going to Hawaii for our honeymoon, and when you are flying from the Eastern US the whole way to Hawaii, you gotta go to Pearl Harbor while you're there. Seeing all the artifacts, hearing the stories on the headphones, and seeing the oil bubble up was just touching. Its hard to imagine living through that, but being there in the middle of everything makes it easier.
We LOVED the self guided tour. We were scheduled for an entire tour with a tour company, but the bus didn't pick us up. So they sent another car for us, and then we did the tour on our own with the headphones. I liked that better- you could go at your own pace.
Beware, there's more Japanese than American- while I'm very tolerant, it gets to you after a while when you can't understand a word anyone is saying.
I went there as a very young lady. I can remember the boat trip over and how quiet everyone was. We were listening to the guide telling us of the story of what happened here on the day so long ago. He was so good at story telling that you could almost see it happening around you. As we arrived at the memorial things were dead quiet. The memorial was so beautiful. The was a wall with the names of everyone on board the ship when it was blown up. There were flowers and wreaths on the floor in front of the wall. Some names had ribbons on them. Then in the middle was a open view of the smoke stack that still had oil leaking out of the wreckage after all this time. I thought that was just talk but it was true. I saw it myself. Kinda spookey knowing that men that served our country were trapped in the ship just feet below where I was standing. Then to look out the window and see today war ships. Goose bumps were on my arms. Very very cool place. Highly recommended.
disliked the long wait but understood why. my Father was in Pearl Harbor and was very proud of his service there.so it meant alot to me and my daughter was also with me too.this year i plan on taking my son too
A place to remember. Movie is sad. Worth the money. Remember! It's in the history. In my opinion, this is only good for young adults and above. Young kids doesn't really realize the importance of this place yet plus you really have to be quiet at all times.
