International Marketplace, Honolulu

My wife and I went here several times during out honeymoon. Having grown up in Hawaii I really enjoyed the International Marketplace because most of the people working there are actually the shop owners. They sell unique gifts at typically lower price. The only place you might find some of this stuff cheaper is at the flea market. But the flea market is only once a week and it is not as good of an experience. I bought my mother in law a print from the Music Box kiosk. hawaiianmusicboxes. com The food court is both good and affordable. They often have life music by local artists and local polynesian shows. The open air environment is nice. Huge banyan trees offer shade (but watch out for bird bombs!) Some shops can get repetitive in selling the same stuff and shop owners will engage you. Obviously if you like to avoid talking to human beings while you shop you should go to large retail centers nearby. But all-in-all the International Market Place is a fun affordable shopping experience in Waikiki! Check their website to see what kind of events they are having before you stop by.

I like the rubber duckies at island gift shop, they have hawaiian themed ones with duckies in leis and aloha shirts. But the funniest are the ninja duckies!

at the duke market there was a vendor who was selling black sand beach artwork who was very rude to me because i had purchased a similar item at another vendor. i had a great time on hawaii but this vendor left me with a bad taste in my mouth about the duke marketplace (next to international market)

I'm not a person who likes to haggle, which seems to be what most of the vendors do here. I have recently found a shop called Island Gift Shop, it's right in the middle of the marketplace. It's hard to find but you can ask any security guards and they would point you to the right direction. This shop has the lowest prices. There are prominent signs saying that they do not bargain, which at first seems a bit stuck-up to me, but after checking out prices on some gifts that I was looking for, I found that they have the cheapest prices out of all the shops like ABC Stores and some other gift shops, especially the one by the foodcourt (I forgot the name), they have the most expensive prices. Some products are even cheaper than Walmart! Don't even try to bargain at this store because they are really strict with their policy, which I find is exceptionally good because this should be the way how a business should be run. This way, everybody gets a good price and nobody is cheated. Forget about those kiosks! They can let you bargain from $40 to $10. I don't like them at all. I would recommend to everyone to go to Island Gift Shop, Store #52 at the Marketplace for the cheapest prices.

Shady, breezy and somewhat beautiful, and a great place to shop with our bad ecomony. The marketplace has basically anything and too much of it. If youre careful you can spend less than $100 and get alot of gifts. We bought 4 tee shirts at one place for $9. The best rule is not to buy one particular thing you like the 1st time you see it. Chances are its at another vendor for $5 less. Shop around. Alot of the shops have the same exact things and that cool leaf-made photo album you just spent $15 on may be around the corner for $8. The atmosphere is pleasant. Even when it rarely rains, you cannot tell. At the food court you'll find awesome plates for less than $6. Try that little Korean place, whatever you do. Visit the marketplace atleast once and like someone else mentioned "watch the gold" and dont think ya cant get that $20 picture for $12

I spent many hours walking around the market. But don't automatically assume that because they are flexible on prices that you are going to get a good deal. I would suggest going to the IM after you've been on the Island for a few days, and have checked out prices so you can compare. We did however get the best prices on souvenir T-shirts here! And there is a great Korean restaurant that we went to nestled in there somewhere. You can get good deals, but don't buy from the first vendor you come across, walk around and compare. Don't be shy about offering less than what they are asking, and some vendors will deal with you the more you buy.

There is more junk being sold at the International Market Place than anyone could imagine, but it's affordable and you can easily find wonderful gifts to bring home. The atmosphere is something I really enjoyed. The vendors are interesting and almost always willing to deal. I purchased a number of gift items on my two visits to Oahu. I honestly can't wait to go back again. The food in the mall is as good as you're going to get on the island and it is very reasonably priced. If you love to watch people, this is the place to be. It's right across the street from the ocean and it certainly is part of what makes this beautiful island a place to revisit.

A great place to browse, has almost everything, even luggage if you have bought too much. Very friendly vendors, nice little food court. Has some entertainment in the evening. Plan on spending some time here.

We spent a week in Honolulu early last year. and spent almost every evening at the IMP. We are going back this month, and we are excited about spending our evenings there again. What fun, looking at all the goodies. Prices much the same everwhere, but you could often bargain with them and get a better deal. Love the shell necklaces and other items unique to the islands. I'll be sure to get some better jewelry this time. Great atmosphere even is the rain. Excellent place to get your souveniers and gifts to take home to friends and family.
