College students from the nearby UH Manoa campus have made this place their own. It is a deliberate throwback to the folk houses of the 50s and 60s; entertainment ranges from solo guitar to blues, reggae and various types of rock. You can even hear a poem or two recited here from time to time. The scheduled live shows are presented every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. In the daytime, Mexican lunch foods are served. There is a large room upstairs that is available for private parties and musical events.

Anna's is the CBGB's of Honolulu
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/15/09
Our band plays rock'n roll every now and then at Anna's and the bartender and waitresses upstairs have always been great to us. Best bartender in the state. Upstairs has been going through some changes but I've been going to Anna's for a long time and the change are for the better. Great venue for the local music scene. Support Anna's and you support the local musicians here. Its the CBGB's of Honolulu. rac

dive bar with the fire still burning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/03/07
In 1969 was opened a bar called Anna Bananas, in Honolulu. From what I hear it used to be a biker bar, more fights went down, so on and so forth. Now is a different scene, more of the college crowd and less bikers, but still has a more than decent jukebox with plenty of options (lacking good punk though). Overall, for any reason you decide to venture to this spot, you will probably have a real good time. Especially when Guinness is on special, mmmmm. Cheers.

Anna Banana's closed for Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/20/06
Don't bother going to Anna's. New management who does not want to service anyone unless they know them. We've been going to Anna's since the 70's. Was told it had change drastically. They were right. Went in last night after seeing a great movie and wanted to have a nightcap on the way home. Asked stuckup bartendress for 3 shots of tequila with 3 beer backs. She said she didn't feel comfortable serving to people she didn't know. WHAT KIND OF SERVICE IS THAT!!! She said she'd serve us mixed drinks and beer all we wanted, but no shots. We were dumbfounded. We looked around and realized that there were only 2 other people in there. Now we know why. The place looks like a demolition team is starting demolition. No more posters, only 2 dart boards (used to have 4) No more customers. We called a couple friends who used to go there and they said yep, they had the same service. When we wanted to show our 25 year old son upstairs, she said she needed our ID's to go upstairs even just to look. We decided to give our money to Eastside Grill on University. Had tons of fun there and the bartenders made us feel very welcome and they didn't even know us.

Will be back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/19/05
Great place to stop off at for a beer in the afternoon or at happy hour! Was in Waikiki for 10 days and this a place I tipped back quite a few at after a day of laying on the beach.I'd say the regulars make this place!Always someone there to have a great conversation with.Staff was friendly and prompt.Prices were very resonable-great happy hour prices, and had nightly specials!Only ate there once, they have pub style food which was fine with me! Evidently they have music upstairs certain nights-can't comment on that-never made it up there.Had to much fun throwing back a few and conversating downstairs.Defintely will be returning to Anna Bananas on my next trip this May.
