Bubbies Home-made Ice Cream & Desserts
Once you get a chance to read the suggestive names on the menu, you might wonder just whether Bubbies was in fact named after a grandmother, or if it was named after something else entirely! But when ice cream this sinfully rich is on the menu, a naughty name is only appropriate. Generous scoops of decadent ice creams, made locally and featuring island produce, are served. Banana Splits, Cookie Sundaes, Mud Pies and other favorites, all with a questionable name, are offered.
Bubbies ice cream has good texture. It's dense and rich, and has a good homemade feel to it. Their specialty flavors are really interesting too. However, at times they can be weak in flavor. Portions are good, except for the times you get a weak-wristed unfriendly worker who gives you whimpy samples, and whimpy portions. But if I had to list my top 3 ice cream places in Hawaii, Bubbies is definitely on my list. I wish there were more locations to choose from though....
A fun little local Hawaii chain ice cream shop with plenty of unique flavors. There's one by the University of Hawaii near Manoa-Kaimuki and another in Hawaii Kai. A nice place to hang out; change of place from Starbucks or a coffee shop.
Bubbies is wonderful. They are an excellent icecream parlor and NOT a huge chain. To build on the quality of their icecream, which comes in both traditional American and local flavors, they also have the best ice cream mochi and really good icecream pies by the slice. If you like icecream in any form, you'll like something here! The servers behind the counter are friendly and there are plentiful tables to sit and enjoy if you like. One of my favorite island treats.
Despite the impression you might get from the review written above, Bubbies is very family-friendly and a great place for people of all ages. The owner loves kids and will often add a little gummy bear on top of my son's ice cream cone. This is a great place to go for a treat after snorkeling at Hanauma Bay.
