Legend Vegetarian Restaurant (The)
Owned by the same folks as Legend Seafood Restaurant across the hall, this Chinatown establishment specializes in Buddhist temple cuisine. The impressive menu features more than 60 selections; nothing costs more than $15. Try the Assorted Gluten and Bean curd appetizer plate for a range of tastes and textures that you won't believe are vegetarian. Completely vegetarian dim sum is served at lunch; especially good is the Steamed Rice in Lotus Leaf. Tea and soft drinks are the only beverages served. The dining room is stark and bright, the staff knowledgeable. Vegetarian cuisine is elevated to grand heights here.
The service here is terrible!!! Waitresses are inattentive and rude. I ate here and had extremely poor service, therefore I gave a small tip. I was shocked when the manager and waitress told me my tip was too small and it had to be bigger. Unfortunately, I gave in and made the tip a bit bigger. Boy, was I surprised when I got my credit card bill later and saw a charge from the restaurant for more than double the amount I had authorized. This is fraud!!! I will NEVER go to this restaurant again!
The selection of tasty food is as large and diverse as it is delicious and affordable. I am so addicted to the flavorful and satisfying dim sum that I haven't been able to try very many of the wide variety of menu items. The food is imaginative and expertly created, prompting one to wonder if the manapua, egg rolls, or the half-moons really are meatless (they are). However, the price is so nice; it's amazing that delicious food of such high quality is available for such affordable prices.
The only complaint that I have is that it is sometimes difficult to get the attention of the waitresses with the steam carts in order to get more servings of dim sum. Patience and assertiveness are important to getting all that you wish to eat.
