My boyfriend and I went here to have a nice grown-up dinner. When you go to Honolulu it is easy just to go to the fun places, La Mer makes you realize the other aspects of Hawaii (beauty, luxury, wonderful food). We really splurged and got an appetizer, entree and deserts. I think this is something that everyone should do. You go to a luau and you spend just the same amount of money as you would at La Mer. A luau is one side of Hawaii and La Mer is the other. The service, food and everything was wonderful. My boyfriend and I are younger (mid 20's) and they never treated us like we were anything less than one of the older, richer guests. PLEASE don't let the price scare you from going, it is well worth it!
I've eaten here twice, both times not staying at the hotel. Men are required to wear jackets but even as a single they are freindly. I can't imagine getting a bad meal here, not even a bad course. The abaility of the staff to take Pacific fish and local ingreadiants and cook it in a French style is remarkable.
From the welcoming glass of "Dom" to the fantastic dessert was a fantastic experience. Right on the beach, this is a great place to enjoy fine dining while watching incredible sunsets. A five star in my book.
I've celebrated my 16th, 18th and 19th birthday at La Mer and also celebrated my grandmother's 80th birthday. Every time we go on a vacation to Hawaii, it's for someone's birthday but for myself, it's a place filled with memories. La Mer is the last place I celebrated my birthday with my grandfather before he past away (we were extremly close), La Mer was the first place my first boyfriend took me for my birthday, La Mer was the place where my grandmother purpusly came to Hawaii to celebrate her 80th birthday with her only 2 grandchildren and every time the survice and the food was excellent! One thing I was surprised about La Mer was that when my boyfriend and I were there, we were young but never treated us diffrently...the staffs made us feel so comfortable and welcomed and we were so pleased! The strawberry shortcake is out of this world, we always order the whole cake :) Thank you so much for all the beautiful memories!
