The ambience here is relaxed and comfortable, characterized by the "Earth First" spirit that is found in lots of Hawaiian and Northern Californian restaurants. Smoking is strictly not allowed. Fresh, healthy food is served in a clean, family-friendly atmosphere. Breakfast offerings include traditional plates such as Eggs Benedict, and more creative fare such as carrot pancakes. For lunch, dine on Chicken-Papaya salad or an island stir-fry. A "Keiki Menu" is available for the little ones.
We went anticipating having a light dinner and were pleased to see there was a live piano player. We were seated outside, which was probably a bad choice since it resulted in almost non-existent service. The food was below average in quality but above average in price. The caesar salad's "homemade" croutons tasted straight out of a box, and the Portuguese bean soup was unpalatably salty. Add to that the fact that our waitress never once came back to check on us and we had to literally get up and ask the hostess for our bill. It was the second time in my life where I stiffed a server, and I don't feel the slightest bit guilty about it. The piano music was absolutely atrocious; the "pianist"'s playing resembled that of an eight-year-old's beginning piano lesson. Lurching music interrupted by her frequent conversations with passers-by was worsened by the fact that she not only was not using written music nor was she familiar with any of the songs she was playing. All-around a real disappointment.
We got married at sunrise on Lanikai Beach just a few blocks away. After the wedding we took all of our guests here for breakfast. The food was excellent, the setting was relaxing and the prices were great. We dined at this neat little restaurant several more times during our stay in Kailua and each visit exceeded our expectations. Looking forward to going back soon and enjoying one of their fantastic omelettes!
