Originally an earthen fort established during the Revolutionary War, Old Fort Jackson's brick structure was built in 1808, and was further developed between 1845 and 1860. The fort sits on the bank of the Savannah River and is surrounded by a moat. Visitors may explore the tunnel-like passageways that used to house soldiers and store ammunition and supplies. Inside, watch a video presentation on the history of the fort. Cannons and other weapons are on display throughout. Daily cannon firings are offered during the summer months.

Wonderfully Interesting
By KEN, 03/04/08
If you love historic war sites this is a great place. Walk through the grounds for a low price and enjoy seeing old cannons, jail cells, creepy old buildings, and hidden gravestones. Very cool.

Perfect for Groups!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/10/07
I went to this fort with my class and it was sooo fun and educational! First, a man in character lined us and and taught us drill commands. This may sound boring, but it was very funny! Then he sat us down and talked about how the Fort was used and different cool facts. It was worth the money, come here when you come to Savannah!

We loved it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/16/07
It was great working our way through the same tunnels that Confederate soldiers walked in. I lovedn seeing the cannons. There was even a soldier there to greet us that told us everything about the fort.

Great place for Scouts
By Cindy, 01/04/07
I have visited twice with the Girl Scouts. Great place to learn the history of GA. This is a non goverment funded fort that relies on donations, volunteers, and visitors fees to operate this great little piece of history. Don't miss it!

It's interesting but not wonderful. I preferred Ft. Pulaski.
