It was from these earthwork battlements that a dwindling Confederate force held out for nearly two years before being taken by the marauding General William Tecumseh Sherman. Upon its surrender in 1864, the destructive swath across Georgia known as Sherman's March to the Sea was concluded, and the backbone of the Confederacy lay broken. A small museum, visitor's center and a few trails surround the restored battlements.

We are repeat visitors!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/11/06
We've stayed at this park several times and have another trip planned in the next few weeks! We love it! The staff is always friendly and helpful! The only drawback that we have experienced is that you have to plan ahead and make sure you have plenty of ice and other supplies so that you don't have to drive back into town, especially after hours and on Sunday! We love to fish and this park offers an excellent opportunity to do that.....either in our boat or from either one of their two piers. Facilities provided are well maintained and clean. Be sure to take plenty of bug spray and check yourself & pets for ticks. But we are from South GA and are used to this anyway. If you like peace and quiet, you will love this park! Even on holiday week-ends, it is still a great place to relax!

We Will Never Go Back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/26/05
This is a camp ground and nothing else. We went on a rainy day and were there a total of five minutes.
