Little White House
When Franklin D. Roosevelt was president, he spent a great deal of time in the warm healing springs located in the small town of Warm Springs. So much time, in fact, that he built himself a home here and named it the Little White House. Roosevelt carried out much of his administration from this tranquil spot, which is also where he died. An adjacent museum houses Roosevelt's walking cane collection along with many photos from his administration. Both sites are open daily year-round, and admission is free.
My Husband decided that since i had never been to the Little White House, he would take me there for my Birthday...I would have to say it was the best Birthday ever.. We had such a wonderful time and the attendents did such a wonderful job and were very friendly.. I would say we will go back again..
Yesterday was my 9th visit to the Little White House State Historic Site. The rangers are friendly and tell the story of Franklin Roosevelt's 41 visits to the region in the 1930's and 40's. Roosevelt collapsed and died in his Pine Mountain Cottage on April 12, 1945. The museum is excellent and Little White House is preserved, exactly as it was on April 12th. This is a must see Georgia attraction. It caters to young and old alike.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was sitting for a portrait when he collapsed and shortly thereafter died. The actual portrait is on display in a separate building as well as the work as it would have appeared if completed. FDR was a President beyond comparison for his work to bring our great country through its lowest point in history. And in this, his final portrait, is visible the toll of his patriotism.
