Atlanta History Center
This comprehensive museum of Atlanta's past is located a few blocks from the Governor's Mansion in residential Buckhead. Exhibits cover the gamut of the region's history, including special sections on the Civil War, Southern folk crafts, African-American history, and the Civil Rights movement. The museum is surrounded by 33 acres (13.5 hectares) of gardens that feature the historic Swan House, the fully-restored Tullie Smith Farm, a library and archive, and several restaurants. Visitor maps are available in five languages.
The Atlanta History Center boasts 33 acres of gardens, exhibits, historic structures and more! I was extremely impressed by how clean and well kept everything was. The Museum hosts about 7 different exhibitions but my favorite was the one on the Civil War and the history of Atlanta. Swan House and the Tullie Smith Farm were phenomenal. The staff really knew the information and were so pleasant. Go check it out! You won't regret it!
The segregation exhibit was fascinating. The mansion was okay if you're into that kind of thing. Olympic exhibit is good, but would be better if everything worked and was well-maintained. I'm sure the Civil War exhibit was interesting too, but we ran out of time. The walk outside (to the mansion, farm house, etc.) is amazing on a nice day.
I first visited in 2005, I was astonished to see that the facility appeared to be unkept & the museum staff was not very helpful or corteous. Needless to say when my wife asked me to return this year, I was not very excited to return. I felt if an instution such as The Atlanta History Center did not care enough about how the paying public viewed them, than I would not provide any support by paying to enter. Reluctantly I returned and was very pleased to see that there has been many improvements(staff, and upkeep of the grounds & facility). Looking forward to the new exhibits. Great Job!

This museum is a must! And do it all! Go through the Swan House! Go to the farm! It was great! there was a temporary display there all about Ben Franklin and it was done so well! Loved the Olympics room. The Civil War part was wonderful! Loved the Gardens. Go! You will be so glad you did!
The museum provides a wonderful and thorough overview of the formation of the foremost city in the South. Their exibits are interesting and the authentic artifacts are amazing. As someone from the Atlanta area, I really appreciated the Atlanta History Center.
