Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary
This non-profit organization rehabilitates all sorts of wild and domestic animals that have met with misfortune - from horses, birds, pigs and sheep to bears, monkeys, cougars, and wolves. It also brings together children and animals so they both can learn to provide unconditional love, service and a future of hope to each other. Visitors are welcome at the animal center throughout the week for guided educational tours. However, inclement weather or special events may alter tour times, so it's best to call ahead to confirm. Although tours are free, donations are appreciated to help the center continue its important work.
The animals seemed happy enough, well fed. The atmosphere was less than welcoming, grounds not kept up, children chasing animals and throwing rocks at them. The volunteer workers were unfriendly. Not my idea of a relaxing stroll through the zoo.
Noah's Ark's tranquility is evident when you first drive onto the beautifully landscaped grounds. Over 100 species of animals live there - all animal rescues. The habitat houses lions and tigers and bears, oh my, as well as monkeys, wolves a leopard and cougar. One of the neatest parts is the nature trail area, where llama (watch out, they spit), deer, pigs and peacocks roam. Beautiful place, and it's free (but donations are appreciated and graciously received).
I took my kitten in to get fixed here. They tied off one of the kitten's ureters instead of the kitten's fallopian tube. Weeks later the cat had kidney failure and we took her back for exploritory surgery. During the surgery the cat died. Dr. Thomas was grossly incompetent and killed a perfectly healthy kitten.
I took a baby bird that I found on the ground, in for rehabilitation and possible release. When I came back a week later to check on it, nobody knew what I was talking about. I felt stupid. Next time, I'll just do it myself.
