The perfect spot for local jazz is among the suburban offices of Sandy Springs and Roswell Road. Cafe 290 offers live jazz all week as well as good food. Steak and seafood selections are prepared well and complemented by a nice wine list, but most folks come for the music. The dining area is decked out to resemble a jazz club of old, and surrounds the small performance stage. Be sure to book reservations if you want to eat during the show. Full bar service is provided.
My husband and I went there on our first date, with another couple the sax player was great. Only downside is the smoke. I called to make reservation and spoke with a gentlmen and ask if they still allowed smoking he said no. Well that was a Lie when we arrive. There was a lady collecting a $10.00 admission and you could smell the smoke i asked about the smoke she said oh they can only smoke in the bar area. Da! this area is open without a door.I will never come back there if thay get rid of the smoking maybe. And also the website is deceving.
What was supposed to be a fun night out with friends just didn't happen. Ladies you know how it is when you are determined to have a good time no matter what. Well we just could not get the good times to roll at Cafe 290. We went on open mic night ready to let loose. The guy collecting the $5 cover was rude; he became offensive and dismissive when we did not respond to his flirting. We thought that was going to be the worst of it and we'd already paid to get in so we just let it roll off. The waitress was overwhelmed and the food and drink orders took forever. The food was overcooked (they had burgers/fries/wings, etc.) and overpriced. The corner where we sat smelled like a dank wet mop. There were a good bit of children in attendance and many of them performed in the open mic show (lots of rap). The show was set up Idol style. The hostess, the DJ and one of the guest judges were extremely profane when introducing and discussing the acts. The banter between the hostess, one of the judges and the DJ was very uncomfortable; all that gay/black/white business being tossed around was unsettling. The vulgarity was even more over the top because of all the children in attendance. I'm not sure why kids were allowed in the first place. We tried to grin and bear it given that we paid the cover to get in. The final straw came when the hostess and DJ thought it was cute/funny/appropriate??? to insult patrons at the end of the show as everyone was leaving. I know I will not return or recommend this place to anyone else. We picked a bad spot for our girls' night and I will not be returning.
I have been going to Cafe 290 for a while now. I enjoy the entertainment so much. The prices of the food and drinks are good also. It's a great atmosphere to kick it with friends or if you just want something to do and you are alone. No matter the circumstances of why you are out this is a great place to visit.
Cafe 290 is my kind of joint! You could go casual or dressy. The atmosphere is very laid back and the food and drinks are not bad at all. The people relatively friendly and the entertainment/band and guest singers are absolutely ''Amazing!!''.
You get quality entertainment for less than $20.00. The sports bar offers great drinks and a diverse croud of beautiful people. It's my favorite place to visit when in the area.
